Dr,
can you forward this to your Mt. Snow fellow staff members -it's from your nearest competitor, but I'm not sure they can monitor communications from the non approved web sites. Vail has blocks on their web servers for porn, alcohol, firearms, and IKON.

STRATTON DAILY MESSAGE

1/17 3:00PM - Wowzah! What a day, ropes were dropping left and right. We even got to play in the glades with the fresh new snow we received. Tomorrow you can expect to ski and ride down 75 of your favorite trails, with 46 of those that will catch fresh stripes overnight. 8 lifts will be spinning for you at 9AM

I’m there next t/w/th, free parking at the sun bowl and leave my lunch/booze in my car 😍

crazy. Mount snow only 44 trails? Is that correct? I know vails websites aren’t accurate a lot.

if that’s true that’s crazy. Like 50% open?

even Magic will be 60% open Tomorrow.

Do they report acreage?

you should at least get some more open trails for your parking money
I was at mt snow today. All the snowmaking trails except for ripcord have snow or they are currently making snow on them. Should all be open after they are pushed out. Some natural trails should be open soon too. Been skiing there for years, they are really taking there time opening the trails.

Given how terrible December was, I think to be this close to 100% snowmaking terrain open by now is actually pretty good. All of the other big players are much further from that.

There's a considerable amount of trails at Mount Snow that don't have snowmaking and only open with natural snow, i'm sure adding pipe is in the plans in the future

Huh ? Which other big players would that be ?

Mt Snow today reporting 46 trails open out of 86 = 53 %

Okemo = 105 / 128 = 82 %
Bromley = 35 / 47 = 74 %
Stratton = 75 / 99 = 76 %
Killington = 140 / 155 = 90 %
Sugarbush = 105 / 111 = 95 %
Stowe = 94 / 127 = 74 %

Today's report still shows no natural trails are open. Though Challenger was open on the weekend. I gotta think at least Uncles is good to go. From the tress it looked like a ton of people skied it. so the crust would not be an issue. Are they short staffed, being more cautious, or maybe just don't care???

They were at the top in terms of acreage pretty recently, although others that don't pump as much water may have finally caught up

Rope went up on Nitro today, so the cats can knock down the features ahead of another snowmaking run prior to a new build next week. Will be nice to get some runs on Nitro as a non feature trail, with a bunch of soft whales on it over the weekend, I will not lie.

They'll open the naturals when they feel it's safe. The numerous patrollers I know, want to ski them as much as we all do, they just don't want to be having to give some of the masses, unneeded tobbogan rides if they feel a significant risk is there. Apparently they had a couple of calls for folks needing a tobbogan on a roped off trail last weekend

You're showing total trails open... I said snowmaking acreage.

Go take a look at the number of snowmaking trails that have not had snow made on them yet at the other areas on this list (add the Maine resorts too), and then look at Mount Snow (1 trail).

This was my point. I can't comment as to why or why they haven't opened trails on natural only.

Yup, and the secondary factor, is the acreage they've made snow on is substantial. The naturals that are rope up still, relatively speaking are "small" trails (even though I hope a bunch of them will get a rope drop very soon!) - Very happy with the snowmaking efforts they've put out there this season, both in terms of quality and quantity of snow they've made, especially given the challenges Mother Nature has provided many times over the last 10 weeks or so since they 1st fired the system up

So we're officially Okemo South now, great.

Skiing is inherently dangerous. If the trails have coverage they should be open, not waiting for perfect conditions so jerries can do GS Turns the entire length. Also if the trail was roped off what does that even have to do with opening something new. Last season half of North Face was closed for absolutely no reason. If the patrollers think the conditions are that difficult maybe they should work on their skiing a little…

This is what thin cover signs were invented for! It does seem to be turning into another Okemo.

Always put it on the same level as okemo, sorry!
The difference is Mount Snow was typically very liberal about opening trails, while Okemo was/is the exact opposite. It's crazy how many orange poles Okemo puts around the mountain to mark even the smallest brown spot. Their commitment to marking all that stuff is actually kinda impressive.

I feel like this time of year a thin cover sign does more to keep people from getting tobogganed off trails than leaving them closed with a pristine entrance of POW that will lure an idiot to duck the rope!

Today, while on the Sundance 6 near the top, I saw 2 riders duck Shoot Out, lookers right. It looked sweet and was not too crusty at all.
Whatever. So lets open all the natural trails saturday morning so the masses hit it all at once. Then count toboggan rides down.
2 weeks ago, helicopter evac took place 2 days in a row from sundance lot. If we're trying to prevent injuries, those park features would go a long way. Messrs. Rental Ski can go off a 40' jump, but he better stay off Uncles until it's safe for him.

I have no issues with snow making. What is open is very good and they clearly committed to a deep base. They did f-up on roller coaster, but OK.

For the last 2 days, the place has been empty with the best conditions of the season. Bluebird ski on which was nice with the cold. I got the golden bub today. And canyon lift was being worked on to get it fixed.

I have never managed to get the golden bubble, do you guys step aside at the front of the line to let other chairs and people pass until you get chair #50 ? Or just lucky ?

lucky - even with a ski on bubble midweek, there is always 3-4 groups ahead of you - you can't hold up - that would be wrong
