This is all great info and I am considering the CT Club or the ACE. I did end up getting a deal on a season pass to Sundown(I know I shoud do the weeknigts with the crew here), but am looking to be a wanderer next year and this would be a great opportunity to save some money doing it.

tradeoffs

ski nh is the best deal imo if you like Nh. I have bought into that with a few freinds before, just to add somem variety to a season passes www.skinh.com

These are pretty good prices, but their first tier are still about $7 per ticket higher than ACE and SkiNH requires a minimum purchase of 20 tickets. This puts you in the minimum order range of $700-900 for the most popular resorts.

As an individual SkiNH is good if you want to buy a large quantity of tickets to the same resort (up to 50%/10 per minimum order), and the minimum order is 20 tickets.

If you want to go in with other people, as Bob describes, it's a good deal for NH-centric skiers, but I find that it's fun to do once or twice, but people tire very quickly of collecting money, distributing, coordinating, negotiating if you all want the same resort, etc.

They also have "12-packs" but group three areas together in each pack. That happens with bulk club purchases too, (where they force you to take some area you don't want) but clubs, having more members, usually have a market for these "don't wants.

What clubs offer is the ability to buy much smaller numbers and to assume more of the upfront risk.

One more thing I forgot about the ACE vouchers. Most of the vouchers are good for EITHER a full day adult ticket OR a learn to ski/ride package (lesson, equipment, beginner lift.) People forget about that part often.

There is really a program for everyone if you look around.

SkiNH used to offer more areas at the $20 price point...when a lot of the smaller areas went to $35 per pass with all of the other limitations and minimum purchase requirements it became less of a deal.

Most of the clubs around here are mostly older skiers/riders in their 40s and 50s..but one day when I ski in South America or Europe..it would be good to go with a ski club..to make all the logistics less confusing. In Jackson Hole..more than half of the people staying at the 49er inn were either from a big Minnesota ski club...or a Singles group. I personally prefer to travel alone..It would be cool to get discounts on passes at Stowe.

Anybody know of any ski clubs with lots of hot single 20 something women???

Check out the Hoboken Ski Club for young hotties.

Question on the ACE membership - does each family member need to be a member? Or can one member of the family purchase tickets for the rest of the family?

What's the ticket limit, Bill?

For 'tier 1' areas, the major resorts, it's two per mountain per member as I understand it. The lower tier mountains you can buy more.

The club is the perfect set up for someone who wants to ski a large variety of mountains. If you send Bill a private message, he's quite forthcoming with any individual questions you might have. Sold me on the club quite quick, I'm looking forward to its benefits for next season and I'm advocating it to numerous friends.

Thanks...I'm sold on the club. Was just wondering.

deadhead got it right. Remember, each adult can purchase up to the limit. A joint member is a second adult by definition. So a member and a joint member can purchase 2x the limits. You'll need two order sheets to accomplish that.

only adult members can buy tix. Each adult gets the same limit. 2 paid adults (main and joint) = 2x the fun(tix).

Remember, with most bulk ticket purchases, they only sell one size: adult. Put the adult tix on your kidz, you're good to go. Do the math, the bulk rates are cheaper than the kidz walkup rates. There ARE other clubs that sell kids tickets but they tend to be negotiated directly with the mountains and offer fewer resort choices.

don't take my word, do the research yourself - the field changes every year.

Sign me up

I wonder how many AZers will become ACE members next year?

Those ticket discounts are great -- I plan on joining for that alone. May even be able to make it to a meeting or two since they're close to home.

ACE makes their ticket purchase in July, based on last season's demand and then make the offer in August. If there are several new members, it could change the calculus and reduce the available tickets. So... I want to get new members signed up now and find out (no commitment survey) how many tickets and what resorts each person is interested in. I want to do this ASAP before we all forget about skiing (sad thought...)

I don't think it qualifies as the type of Club being discussed heere, but I'll ask this anyway. Has anybody ever been involved with the Greylock Ski Club. From what I see on their web site they seem like the original ski area. Small with rope tows and run by the members. It's rather cheap as well. You can check it out here.

ACE rolls out new member privs

On Monday the ACE Ski and Board Club Executive Board met and changed the rules to allow new members to start on March 1st and go through the end of the next season Sept 30, 2009. This offer applies to first-timer memberships only, and is valid one time only per new member.

I urged the board to change the enrollment period to begin while the prior season is still underway and skiing and riding is still on our brains. This allows you to get on the mail list to receive the August mail sale forms as soon as they are distributed, as well as other email notices about events, etc. (If you want to attend resort club appreciation days, include a SASE for quick return of your membership card.)

Second reason is to know what kind of demand the ticket committee can expect. The club orders tickets in JULY so they have to anticipate what orders will be coming. If tickets interest you, Put a note on your app indicating which resorts. It's NOT a commitment, but you'll have a better chance of getting tix if they order sufficient quantities. Remember, it's first come, first served on the tix, subject to the maximums.

So word to the wise, get your apps in now. We're not responsible if you forget to send your app in and don't get the form!

tcharron, Need to clarify one point.
The prices posted:
Magic Mountain @ $10 each
Pat's Peak @ $15 (no blackout dates)
Suicide Six @ $5 each
are the FINAL prices offered. Back in August they started at a higher price than this - typically 2x, I just don't recall. The price is reduced if demand is low. It was quite a suprise to have Pat's tickets this late in the season.

The other thing that happens is that about this time of year, members post (members-only e-mail) tickets that they can't use. Often it's because of unforseen circumstances - injuries, personal situations. members try to recoup their original costs by offering to other members. Right now, the email list has tix for WV, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Loon, Jay, Bromley, Cannon, Gunstock.
