Mt Etna has skiing and I think they are periodically getting lifts taken down by lava flows. There are other ski areas located on volcanos that have the same issues.

I thought he was talking about Hawaii? I have seen pics of several lifts around the world swallowed by lava flows, just not in Hawaii. I can't imagine Hawaii would have a lift for skiing as there are only a few days a year where one can actually ski without get sliced and diced by the lava rock.

I can't find anything on it but I swear I remember reading & seeing a picture of a lift tower partially submerged in lava. Perhaps I'm just getting old & my memory is failing. It was quite awhile ago.

Happens to the best of us. Today, I left my briefcase in the office. I actually thought I left it on the train. Life. What a trip!

Anyway, a footnote to all of this is that Mauna Kea skiing is what actually brought me to this site. One of those "guess the ski area" threads was running in the summer when I just happened to stumble on the page. The picture showed an observatory and a snowfield. No one guessed it yet but I knew it was Mauna Kea. So I created an account and called myself Tropical Skier. Put in my answer and went away. I then came back to the site several months later but forgot my old password so I created a new account -- and snowmonster was born! You guys have been stuck with me ever since!
