18 miles away..1082 feet of vert...seeded bumps..three terrain parks..open 7:30AM to 10:00PM on the weekends..8:30AM to 10:00PM on weekdays..high speed quad..high speed 6-pack..100 percent lit for night skiing..Nastar on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons..race program..free-ride program..halfpipe...skiercross course..annual snow mountain bike race..

It's kind of like skiing in the Rockies with the powder, altitude sickness, terrain, or texans..lots of people skiing in Eagles and hunting jackets...and best of all..I'm there nearly everyday that I'm not on a ski trip...

here's a pretty good view of the mountain. http://www.skibluemt.com/SkiBlue/the-mountain/index.aspx

Sickest/steepest inbounds trail in the east... Or so we are told..

Is avalanche gear required to ski that trail...I live pretty far from Denton..here is an excerp from their website..

Ski Denton is located in the heart of Northern Pennsylvania's heavy snow country on US Route 6. Situated between Galeton and Coudersport, its beautiful scenery and great conditions make it easy to understand why Potter County PA is known as "God's Country".

With slopes ranging from the steepest in the Eastern states to long, gentle beginner trails, Ski Denton has long drawn skiers of all levels. With the addition of a lighted Snowboard Park and new tube slide, Ski Denton offers fun for everyone.

Looks like a decent hill. I've learned to appreciate my local haunt a lot.

I've skied at cameltoe, which even as a kid i really didnt like. Roundtop, while smaller, was more fun. they had a couple of trails way over to the skiers right that were pretty steep. at least thats the way i remember them. had some nice bumps also. Ironically, i think one was called Gunbarrel.

I've skied Blue mountain 255 days in the past three seasons out of a total of 327 days...which means over 75% of my ski days are at Blue mountain the true mountain..

Touch the Sky..Blue mountain..

When did a hill with barely 1000 feet of vertical start being classified as a mountain?

Vert snob.

Most terrain pods at the mighty Killington are in the 1,000 - 1,500' range...

It used to be called Little Gap. It's a step up for marketing purposes. It's also the closest, decent ski hill for me, so I'm feeling a little bit of Homeland defender guy all of a sudden. But, that passed..........

Back in the 70s and 80s...Blue mountain used to be called Little Gap..but seriously 1,000 vert is a mountain in my book..plus the top elevation is above 1500 feet...good thing the ski-patrollers are equipped with extra oxygen tanks for flat landers not aclimated to extreme elevations...The slogan..Touch The Sky..is appropriate because you are so far up there..you are basically in the clouds..

Ask any seasoned skier what mountains they think of when it comes to skiing and the short list most likely includes...

Chamonix, Aspen, Alta, Jackson Hole, Blue Mountain and Whistler-Blackcomb..plus they have snow tubing..and a funnel cake stand..

actually they look like they have a nice, little "expert" pod. they have a double black and even a "triple black"! we don't have that at k except great northern early season ... also most of k's lifts average about 1100'. even the k1 is only about 1000' of real skiing.

Blue doesn't have a triple black...their two doubles would be Blues at Jackson Hole..but are good for mad steezy speed..Blue has a solid pitch for the first 900 vert and then the rest is runout..

There are other areas here besides Blue and Denton which, oddly enough, seem to get the most press around here (for better or for worse). But, and this may come as a shock, there is actually some decent skiing to be had here...though few and far between it can be had (Elk, Sno, Frost and yes Blue) . Plus I'll definitely take having 6 areas with a 30 minute drive from home.
