I have an almost unnatural fear of tearing my ACL.

Seriously. For that reason I overanalyze any drop, even if it's like only 5 feet, before hitting it for the first time.

I have that too! If I get out of my comfort zone for a second I put the brakes on and proceed with more control or more planning. I stayed away from bumps for an entire season that some of the next. Last year started easing my way back in. Not really interested in drops since that is how I tore it in the first place.

Advice: If you get injured, just do what I did. Pretend you AREN'T injured, and keep skiing. Deal with it after the season.

It's not so much the shortened season that has me worried - it's the life long grinding of bone on bone that is giving me pause.... :Shiver:

go for the drops!
I tore mine taking a day off from my usual aggressive skiing to ski with my wife and her girlfriend. charged down a mogul run no problem and then kind of lackadaisically coasted to a stop, hit small ridge wrong, ended up on the backseat and pop. shit happens.

Oh oh, can I play too? I hurt my knee 4 winters in a row wrestling in HS and college. Combo of partially torn ACL and dislocated patella, and I've had ups and downs with it over the past decade or so. It bothered me a bit last year, so I went to an ortho to get it checked out. He said that my knee is actually in great shape, most likely due to the weight training I do that keeps the muscles supporting the joint strong. So the moral of my story is once you're able to, keep hitting the gym.

ice and elevation 72 hours, Therapy is range of motion. was told 3-4 weeks to normal activities. Felt pretty good yesterday, not so much today

It will bet better fast! Since it does not include other knee issues! Key to this season is to work your way back into the trees and bumps!

Post op day one and two (the next day) are usually the worst days as all local meds have worn off. I've and elevate are the absolute best things for swelling, big bags of ice not those gel packs either!
