That triple has got to go. I remember riding that lift 30 years ago at King Ridge. I don't think it's gotten any faster since then.

Spear Mountain triple definitely does suck. The terrain off it is great, but it's a slow poke for sure. The place never needed a high speed 6, a 4 would be more than sufficient for the summit. I don't think they currently have the skier numbers to support 2 high speed lifts, so I'm not certain what the right answer is for Spear.

Only one lift slower that I know, High Country Double at WV. Some good terrain off of it though.

I'd like to see renderings of what they had planned at Ragged for a third peak. I've never seen any drawings. It was only this past winter that they officially postponed them.

If you look on Google Earth, you can see the peak to left looking up. Hard to tell what the terrain would be like though. Microsoft Birdseye would be good but NH is not on it yet.

It is a long ride, but for that reason the glades there don't get tracked up nearly as fast as the ones on the 6-pack.

that may put new ownsership into a (maybe) a deeper hole.

I just hope they will leave Sweepstakes alone and keep it natural (meaning ungroom), its bad enuf they use to groom Birches. Both those trail have narrow and twisty sections. Sweepstakes is my fav since is it double fall lines and small ledges you can ski up and down from.

09/10 Trail Map Brochure says:

"New at Ragged Mountain are 3 interconnected terrain parks. Enter "Wild Side" and find the bigger hits, rails and jumps. Halfway down and off to rider's right, discover "Wild Woods", Ragged Mountain's ALL NATURAL terrain park with log slides, tree hits, and an awesome cliff drop."

Anyone know what that's all about?

Now all they need are some seeded bumps ;).

Ragged does have one rather steep but short trail that is rather cliffy. I would say that their claim of an awesome cliff drop is actually very factual.... if it is the trail that I am thinking about that they are referring to.

The steep cliffy run that I was thinking of is Double Take off the Spear Triple, but according to the trail map, Wild Woods is next to Raggae Glades, which is a blue trail. I've only been there once, so I'm not saying there isn't a cliff next to Raggae Glades, just not the first place I'd look.

The cliff is man made. It was there last season on the skiers right hand side of the terrain park. Landing looked rather flat, but that was from my view from well down the trail. I didn't actually ski through the terrain park to check it out up close.

Here's a pic of it during construction that I found.

Seriously, thats an awesome park feature. Going to be a sucky landing though on anything less than a big dump.

from the looks of it when I was there, they blow a bunch of snow below it, but it still looked flat. Thing if it as a variation of a step-down jump.

It was pretty cool looking

I'm looking to get to Ragged more times this season...last time I was there was a few years ago, and at the time the only reason the conditions were good was because there was a decent amount of natural snow.

How has the area changed in the past few years? Have there been any lift updates? Is the Spear triple still a slow lift? Has the snow making improved?

Last year when I was there not only was the decrypted triple slow they were only allowing 2 people on it at a time. It wasn't windy or anything. Wasn't very comforting because they offered no explanation.

The triple was a cripple for a while last year but it was running at it's usual slow ass three person capacity after Feb. 1 if I recall properly.

As far as New Canada Rd. is concerned it requires approaching on Rte 4 and life is too short for going that way (and suspension parts are too much $$$) besides I think New Canda Rd. is one lane in the winter. Cracks me up that google likes that route coming from the south.
