That's it. Its time to do something. I am going to stop global warming by going green. I am turning the Thermostat down 10 degrees and buying a Toyota Prius. Yeah that will cold things down so this rain turns to snow. Who is with me. :uzi:

I applaud your effort. Turning down the thermostat I don't mind but I draw the line with the Prius.

Look, just move to a slopeside condo with good internet and phone service. Turn in your car until spring.

I can't help but to feel this is so "normal" to have rain in January why does anyone need to whine about it?

The snow will come in time for the "core" of the season. It just does.

I don't cry about the lack of snow in July, nor January. It's just the nature's course. (at least for the lower Hudson valley area)

It because we had great powder last weekend then rain. And month before we had great powder again then rain. I had some great times at Platty already more then last year. It the tease I guess. Glad you had fun times in Colorado did you go to any herbal shops LOL.

Not with you on this one bro. While we always have a "January Thaw", the last two rain events have really sucked away the base. On the average for Mansfield, we're way behind the average and close to halfway through Jan.

The weather is what it is, so just quit the bitching and embrace what it brings us, or else you'll just be another day older and more curmudgeonly in the process!

Skied from 8-3:30 today with 2 quick snack breaks and 30 min for lunch with my kids - managed 21 runs and just over 30k vertical feet. As I recall there was verying amounts of rain on every run, a bunch of foggy runs, some slick and thin spots as well as a bunch of soft "hero snow" to turn in!

Gore-tex is great stuff, and if it wasn't for coming upon an unresponsive kid lying in the middle of the trail with nobody around during what turned out to be my last run (kid turned out to be "OK" once I had called patrol and they showed up and started working on him after he initially once he regained consciuoness reported not being able to feel or move his arms and legs  )

Get out and make the best of what mother nature gives you!!

Thanks for the pep talk. But this rain still sucks.

Pshaw! I'm still getting out there and skiing and don't feel the least bit curmudge. Spent a good day in the rain at Burke a few weeks back, so I don't find your remarks at all empathetic. Not like we've given up the sport.

Gore-tex is great stuff,
Money solves all problems!

seems like an incomplete thought. What's your point?

Sorry about the "incomplete thought" as the ordeal got to me a bit - if it wasn't for that incident it would of been a 1st chair to last chair day in the rain for me. You make the most of what life gives you!! :)

Right! There are probably plenty of people rejoicing the r@!n and warm temps on FB - we don't need that here!! ;) ;). No one else understands our sorrow, so we need to console with our fellow (ugh, sorry to use this term here...) snowlovers!

In all seriousness, I hope all turns out well for the kid. I'm glad to hear about a fellow skier helping out someone in distress.

Because I'm spending a small fortune to go skiing this week and missed out on the past snow events because I had to work. :(

Yes, there's the end of January and February...*fingers crossed*

Nobody actually saw it! He was part of a ski school class, trailing behind the group by a bit (flat light, fog, etc had lots of folks taking it easy today so I could see how someone, even an 11yr old kid would be taking it easy) when I found him, he was maybe 20-25ft below an ice patch with his skis (one binding released one still "closed", both facing tips uphill with his poles scattered near his skis) between him and the ice patch - my guess is he hit the ice patch, lost control, was spun around as he lost control and hit hard on his back/ back of his head and maybe even left hip based on some of his complaints once he regained consciousness.

It was impressive to actually get to witness a full ski patrol response - it was less than 10 minutes from when I found him, then called ski patrol on my cell phone (I now know why when Mount Snow designed their app that they added an emergency response button that connects you directly to ski patrol!!) to when the patrollers were on site (5 of them were eventually there with the 1st less than a minute after I called), and had assessed the patients, had him on the back board and cervical collar, into the sled, notified the base area medical center and coordinated specific base transportation to get the sled from where they could ski to over to the medical center. Very professional and efficient!
