I'm planning a family ski trip mid March up in the northeast for my family (2 boys - 1 skier and 1 snowboarder). We have only been skiing 1 year. Any recommendations on family ski resorts? Thanks!

A few more details would help narrow down the choices:

How far are you looking to go? Are there budget restraints, are there any non skiers that need activities close by? How old are the boys? What kind of places, terrain have you skied already? How many days did you get in the last year?

If you are not regulars at it consider something that has slopeside lodging if you can.

Makes it easy to get ready and mangae your gear., Also when one may have had enough you all don't have to quit. Sunday river and Sugarlaof have that in maine. Attitash offers that as well as bretton woods in NH. Bretton woods would be the easiers to get to. mellow terrain IMO

If you fly... fly into manchester nh and take 93 north to traditional route 3 to 302. About 2 hours of easy driving.

I'm sure Vermont will have somem options also. More familliar with NH and maine myself.

March would be good in the Olympic Village of Lake Placid and ski at Whiteface. If it rains there is still a lot to do in Lake Placid. March is pretty much spring skiing with good snow coverage on all the major resorts.

Are you actually coming up from South Carolina? If so I'm guessing you're going to spend the cash to actually fly up here, so budget isn't quite as sensitive. As a 'family mountain', smuggs kicks arse, lots of other stuff to do, nice condos included, etc..

Give us some of your 'want to be doings', and we can prolly give you a better idea.

WOW, 5 recommadations in a row for WF/LP. That must be a record in this haven of VT. skiers.

I guess the diff here is that s/he is coming from a distance and really deserves a destination resort. s/he's not daytrippin'.

Switch the tables, if I was going to Colorado, Loveland wouldn't be my destination...
Then again, when I was in Tahoe, I stayed in Truckee and schlepped around from resort to resort, but then again, I was solo. If I had my family, I would want a destination...

Yeah, Whiteface/Lake Placid sounds like a win, though if you have money to burn consider Stowe as well. Those two are really your best bets as far as destination resorts in the Northeast.

I'd say Tremblant qualifies as a destination resort.

You could also consider staying in or around Manchester, VT (proximity of Stratton, Bromley and Magic + quaint VT/New England).

Boy, if you mention Manchester just one more time, I'm going to have to check it out! :spin: I've always just daytripped in the area and never explored Manchester!
