I'm starting to see a little on my edges....suggestions? Will sandpaper do the trick?

I second the gummi stone recommendation.

I actually wipe my edges after the end of the day, put on the ski straps then rack 'em in the car. After I get home, I towel the skis down. Worst case of rust I had was after skiing in freezing rain at Okemo. I stuck the ski in a bag and tossed them on the bus. When I got home after the ride, my edges were all rust. I just about ruined a gummi stone getting the rust off.

I would start with a thick, moist towel. Rub aggressively over the bases focusing on the edges. Be very careful of course not to slip....you'll not only need stitches but a tetnus shot too!!

Then I would dry and use a standard tuning stone very carefully so as not to dull the edges...then finish up with the gummi stone. That should remove most of it. You need to take action tho...rust left on can really do some damage.

Wipe again with the moist towel, dry as needed with a thick dry towel....and then wax. Leave the wax on to prevent a reoccurance.

I always wax after a ski day( I am pretty fussy about my gear)...leaving the wax on until preparing to leave/pack the skis then I scrape. If they are going on the roof I leave the wax on and scrape at the lodge or in the ski area parking lot.

Any lingering rust as Greg suggests should always ski off.

As the poster said above, driving home in the rain for a few hours with the skis on the roof can really do some damage....you must at least get the skis in the house immediately and dry the bases thoroughly. Wait till the next morning they can look pretty nasty!
