Ski Area Suggestion For Friday

Ok, I'm taking off of work tomorrow (Friday) for a day of skiing. I live in NJ and I'm thinking of extending my usual weekend daytrip range of <2.5 hrs (Plattekill, Hunter, Windham, etc.) to maybe <4 hrs since the days kind of a freebie and I can still be home in time to meet my wife getting off of work.

Based on the recent storm and the fact that I like a combination trees, bumps, steeps, groomers, where would you suggest that I go? I'm thinking maybe Gore (Whiteface is to far for a day trip). Any ideas in Southern VT? I've heard good things about Magic but I have no idea where it is or how far. Thanks!

Hmm...

Well, my favorite is still Belleayre but I'm a bit biased. :)

If you're willing to go to Gore I'd say do the little extra distance and hit Whiteface. I live in Clifton and it's about a 4.5 hour drive. A bit far for a day trip but it can be done.

Not sure what the places in Southern VT look like right now.

Personally I'd just stick with Plattekill for a day trip (especially with all the fresh snow), but that's just me. If you want to take the extra drive, Gore is OK, but Magic is probably a better choice. Magic is only a little bit north of Mount Snow. The extra bonus with Magic is that the lift tickets are cheap :)

Update: I just checked Magic's website, and it look like 29/34 trails are open. Also, the lift tickets are only $36.

I'd say Plattekill too, but they sent email saying only the Northface chair will be running on Friday.

Belleayre is claiming another 4" on top of Tuesdays storm. Short, but good steeps.

Hunter was in great shape last Monday when I went for the first time.

Gore claimed 8", they seem to tell the truth.

Jiminy Peak was great last night, but kinda small for such a long day trip.

Maybe check the Websites for trails open and lifts running too.

Don't know about Magic or other VT areas.
