Killington is at the far, far edge for a day trip, Jay is just beyond it. Going North, Wildcat's as far as we've gone, and that was a special occasion.

I hate the drive back, my wife hates getting up early. What are ya gonna do?

At a bare minimum of 3:45, Sugarloaf is a bit beyond normal day trip range. Some day I'll probably do it for a pow day.
And there lies the crux of it all. That 3:45 on a powder day will likely be more like 4:30 given poor road conditions...

it is all about the day after the pow dump day. when i lived in MA, i would never drive 3 hours in bad road conditions. generally, you don't miss much if you sit tight the day of the dump and let the plows do their work and head up the next morning when it has stopped snowing. granted by the end of the pow day when all the snow has pilled up and it is still snowing, that is some fine skiing, but it all fills in for fresh tracks the next day.

My wife hates my driving so much that she will only hand me the keys if she is 1/2 in the bag or 1/2 asleep.

Roger that. My wife and kids hate riding in the car so much, they actually miss a lot of ski days because they won't get out of bed and go on a day trip.

Too far from Worcester is basically anything over 3 hours each way, so unfortunately that includes almost everything in NYS except perhaps Catamount, which doesn't warrant a day trip. But - I can go home to Glens Falls, stay with my bro or friends and ski Gore or Whiteface anytime. VT: Jay, the Bush, MRG, Stowe, Bolton are all 4 hrs+. Burke is right at the limit - 3.5 hours. Still too damn far to go, ski all day and drive home tired. Maine is right out. I have done Loon (2:15), Cannon (2:30) and Waterville (2 hours) many times.

I hate driving home to the Boston metro area completely worn out and fighting traffic. Not a fun day. I'll go to Sunapee or Wawa instead.

The better skiing is on the NY side... ;)
Actually, I take this back. Catapult is in MA while the other good black diamonds are in NY.

I limit day trips to the Catskills and even then I have a house up there to crash at. 3 hours maybe 3.5 and I'm shot. This season due to my going to the 8-4 shift, I can hit Vermont easier. One night in a hotel won't break the budget as I only need a bed and some running water. So hopefully I'll get to ski with some of you at K-mart, and Sugarbush, and maybe all the others as well.

I've done day trips to K and Okemo...bout 5-51/2 depending on how traffic is in NYC. Alone day trips as far as M.Snow.
