Form reading the other thread I was thinking to myself what people thought was a ski day that they could take credit for.

I go by the 5 run rule. When I get to the mountain if I dont get 5 runs in I dont count it as a ski day. On a bad day i will have to force myself to get to the five. In a lot of instances it takes that many to warm up and I just keep going.

THis past year I had three trips to the hill that I could not check off on the calendar. WHat a lame ass I fealt like not being able to force 5 out of myself.

But was does a run consist of? My local mountains vertical drop is only 600 ft. Any day I get my butt to the slopes and fall down the mountain I count.

Most days I get out are 5+ hours. Night sessions might be 2.5+ hours. Those all count as far as I'm concerned. Last year I didn't count days I was just poking around the learning area with my daughter.

But is there a certain number of runs. Hours dont really tell the story do they? You can ski by twelve what it would have taken till 4 20 years ago.

I have no quams what people call ski days just wondering.

5 hours anywhere would give me enough runs to count it as a day. 2.5 hours at the local night spot usually translates into 15 runs, but the vert is small (625'), which could also be another measure of a valid day. I don't think much about it. Usually any day I head out I get in enough skiing that it feels like a valid day to me.

You should count those days Greg. As long as your boots were attached to your bindings, and your on the hill that counts in my opinion and if your teaching your little one then that makes it even better. I'll be counting a number of those days teaching my little one this year.

Normally I either get a good chunk of a day in or nothing because of the effort it takes me to get to a mountain, the fact that I don't have a place I go to for night skiing, and the fact that I don't have a season pass. But last year went I went to Jackson Hole, I skied a couple hours or less the day I flew in. I was hesitant to count that as a day, so I often reported a 1/2 in my total. I guess in the end, though, if I'm out on skis it counts.

Nah. The point of me even counting ski days is to determine if I'm on pace with previous years, or will meet a certain days-out goal. I guess once my daughter starts skiing independently, perhaps off the summit of the local hill, it will count. As of the end of last year she was just sliding around the learning area. I skied backwards in front of her much of the time.

At Blue mountain I force myself to ski 20 runs(about 3 hours) on pouring rain days...but if I hike up Stowe or MRG and ski one run I also count it as a day..as for warming up..I ski pretty much everyday so I don't need much of a warm-up..a fast cruiser for the first run and I'm good to go.

Again..my opinion..if you boot up and slide on snow..it counts as a ski day..whether it's a 60k vert day or a 1k vert day..it all evens out in the end..

Runs don't necessarily tell the story either. I could hike into the backcountry and take 3 runs, while you are taking 6 on the groomers. You passed your 5 run minimum, but I didn't. Does that mean that my day doesn't count under your self-imposed rule even though I probably had a better day than you?

It's not about how many runs you take, how much vert you ski, how many hours you're out there....it's about having fun, challenging yourself, and constantly trying to improve. As far as I'm concerned what I count as a day depends on a variety of circumstances (weather, conditions, lift-line wait time, wind holds, etc. But any day you're out there and taking advantage of whats there is a ski day, whether it be from first chair till they stop spinning or a a few runs before work or after, as long as you're out there doing what you enjoy, it counts.
