They worked as fast as a pit crew when bolting down the base of that tower. The first time one of those guys works the top of a tower with the heli overhead must be a memorable experience.

Thanks for the vid post!

My dad worked on a few lift installations like that at Killington in the 80s. It's a pretty crazy process.

Cool video. Those guys were cool as cucumbers with all that steel hanging by a cable above their heads. The heli pilot seemed to have a surgeon's touch!

Very large bolts that I'm sure are checked thoroughly once the chopper is gone...

LOL, exactly. They end up working on each tower for hours after the fact torquing the bolts, alligning the sheave trains etc etc. It's just like a house wall: 15 seconds to erect it, an hour making sure it stays put forever. I don't see that as being super scary, you're all harnesed in. You have to keep your wits about you though and make sure your fingers or head isn't somwhere it shouldn't be when the chopper stops carrying the weight of the load or mis-judges something though! Did any of you see the Doppelmayr sky rider amusement ride video in the group of videos after that? That was pretty darn cool! Nice to see them expanding into other areas of business! :spread:

http://www.lifthill.net/berichte/vertigo_eng.php There's a link for it. Apparently they're going to try to market them to ski resorts as a stand alone summer attraction. Would make sense with it's low capacity and ability to be placed "out of the way". I'd pay $20 to ride one down a ski hill I think?!? I could see that really making some serious $$$ at places like Whistler, where people are in the summer anyway. For the price they paid Doppi for the mountain to mountain tramway being installed right now, they should try to get one thrown in free! lol

Saw a show on the science channel last night called Build it Bigger. All about how they design and build ski resorts. The excavators have to pull themselves up with the shovel, it's so steep. And working on something attached to a flying helicopter has to be one of the craziest things you can do.

I've seen that same show! Really neat, and boy would I love the chance to "play" with some of those toys on the mountain! ;)
