Ski Ward or Nashoba Valley

Warren and I are trying to decide where we might ski on friday afternoon if the rain stays away for a nice evening of local skiing. Right now I am considering skiing at Ski Ward as I have not been there before. Warren wants to ski at Nashoba Valley and has not been there before either.

I only have experience with Nashoba Valley and it's tiny but has varied skiing.

Ski Ward costs $40 for the two of us v.s $58 for Nashoba Valley

Any insight would be appreciated

Ward is much more laid back, not as many out of control or dumped-off kids. Nashoba is a lessons factory, organized race leagues in the evening. Nashoba's attraction is convenience to a mass market. Ward is "harder" to get to. Ward might be a bit smaller. If you like fewer people and these are your two choices, go Ward. Have you looked at Bradford? That's a pretty neat-out of the way place, about the size of Nashoba. (these are all Metro-boston areas / inside 495)

Thanks for the information, I have skied Bradford a long time ago and I liked it but it's a bit too far of a drive to escape the rain on the way back home.

I think we will go with Ski Ward as they will be closing on the 15th and time is running out. Ordinarily I would ski at Sundown as we have not yet skied in Connecticut, but the rain is forecast to move in from the west and driving a bit east may give us more rain free skiing.

Option c is Wachusett, but I am not really up for skiing with the half of Boston.

From my experience (one visit to each) Nashoba is bigger...and has much more terrain.

I'd pick Nashoba. More varied terrain, trails, bigger, etc.

I would go to pats peak. Aot more to offer. Depends on where you are coming from Kevin, but alot more fun and even some mild glades. Nastar. Hurricane would be fun for you an Warren. Nothing against Nashoba. If it came down to ward or Nashoba. Nashoba. Tubing option. Great lodge.

I am going to be picking up Warren from school at 3pm so hopefully it is not about to rain at that point. From there if the weather allows me might go to Nashoba Valley. If rain is closeby maybe to ski Ward.

One good thing about going to Nashoba tonight is that the school programs should be over.

I'd third BobR's recommendation to go to Pats Peak but if you want a quick trip Nashoba should be fine. Also, based on local weather forecasts I think the NCP should hold off through the evening.

I'd guess Hurricane would be fine tonight...unfortunately, the bumps will likely be rock-hard when I go on Sunday. :-x

Warren want's to ski at Nashoba Valley because he has seen it dozens of times from the car when we drive past it on the way up to Maine. I showed him the webcam of Ski Ward last night and he said "that's it":blink: that's all the mountain:lol:

Well he won't be much more excited when he get to Nashoba. I have seen warren and you will have to deal with it. go to Pats. Have fun either way. Nashoba to pats is 40 to 45 more min.

Know what you mean...I can't convince my 15 YO to go there anymore even though I'd be OK with it (it's small but it's only 15 minutes from home). I guess after a few years of after-school programs he figured he's done with the place.

Pat's Peak is about a 2 hour drive and I would usually attempt it, but not on a night with rain in the forecast. Warren is only 8 so his ski expectation bar is not set that high just yet and tonight would be his first <1,000' vertical mountain out of the 19 days he has had this year.
