She went in for surgery at 4:10. Doctor said there was a 50% chance that she would be good in time for our Utah trip which is 2/23. Doctor is a skier, so that made us feel a bit better. :)

Huh?? they won't let you sit with her in Recovery? HMPF.

Get yourself some food in the hospital caf, Andy, gotta take care of yourself too. You'll be tapped for some more care of her. You'll be sitting with her soon. Do you have a recliner in her room or are you elsewhere for the night? Will they let you stay tonight at the hospital?

Glad there were no surprises. Immediate, competent, in-patient surgery beats a long painful trip home and trying to get admitted a day or so after the fact. Good that you didn't go that route.

Worry can't change tomorrow, but sure can take a bite out of today. Today is a done deal, now it is all in recovery. ON to the next challenges.

Best wishes to both of you.

Nope, not a major deal, I'm sitting in the waiting room posting and getting some work out of the way. I'm sure she's still out of it.

I'm ahead of you on this one. Ran for the cafeteria as soon as they wheeled her in. Wanted to be sure I'm around when they finish..

Yes and yes, I spend the night last night

Exactly, at first I wasn't sure what to do, have the surgery here or go home. We decided to do it here just for the reasons you state. As far as expertise goes, we figured a hospital in a ski town has plenty of experience with ski injuries.

I don't have much personal experience with the Rutland Hospital other than driving past it doing the Rt 4/Rt 7 shortcut a couple of million times but my wife was born there and she turned out great plus they did a great job patching up my brother-in-law from his many accidents during his wild motorcycle days. He still does about 30 days a season at SR.

Are ya hanging out for a few days then be able to take her home?

I'm sure V is anxious to see your face, Andy. Its gonna be OK. You made a good decision to stick with the local fix, it means a heck of a lot less pain, time, grief, and aggravation. Now you can get her post surg discharge records ( and all the images) directly to the desk of your own local PCP and he can refer you to a local ortho at home for follow-up. When you are cleared for the trip home, you'll be knowing exactly what you are dealing with and be able to travel.

Good job, well done. I'm so so so sorry you had to deal with it, but you've done it right.

Sorry about your wife's accident. It's amazing how some of the worst injuries occur on some of the least challenging terrain. Wish her well from the Wasatch Front. Hope she is healed and up to some turns by the time you guys are scheduled to come west.

Regards, TP

Thanks, hope she's well for Utah as well, right now it looks like 50/50. I'm probably gonna hold off until the last minute before I make a decision on Utah :(

6 screws in her ankle :(

I've never met either of you but truly hope for a super fast recovery. It gets you thinking how quick a season can come to such an abrupt halt.... careful out there everyone.

PS ANDY my wife STILL has teh screw and plate in and played tennis like a demon when we got her home the local ortho and a good one said BOY who ever did that surgery WAS one FINE surgeon . The plate and screw s have not limited her one bit so she has opted to NOT have them removed unless ?until they are a problem . BTW she SAILED thru PT and beat their original schedule BY TWO WEEKS time

Good luck -- we're all pulling for you guys !!!!-- Andy YOU DID THE RIGHT THING
