Has anyone used one of these machines? They are very expensive even on ebay, and I was wondering if they are worth the price.

If this has already been discussed just let me know were, I did do a search, but I did not find anything.

I have a Classic model that I purchased on Ebay four seasons ago and use it more in the fall and early season. It works well and I use it for muscle memory training and cardio development.

It has but I could not find the old threads. I have one and use it 3 to 4 times a week. Its great...helps keep me in shape. I am not sure if it helps make you a better skier but it sure does help with conditioning. They are a chunk of change though.

I received from my wife as a birthday present this past fall one of their system 4 big mountain series machines with the RPM plate, and love the machine! A very well made, very good actual ski muscle training device, and quite an aerobic workout to boot. I definately noticed this past season a few distinct differences in my conditioning after using the machine. First off this past fall with an almost 2 year old in my house and a very pregnant wife, my free time to go for long runs outside was greatly decreased, so the vast majority of my pre-season conditioning was done late night watching TV on my skier's edge. I noticed when I finally got on snow this year a few things different than normal early snow days for me. First off, even though I didn't mentaly think I was as aerobically conditioned as in years past (normally I'll run 2 to 3 half marathons in the fall at a 1:45 pace, but this past fall I'd of been lucky to get to the finishline of a 10k due to very limited training time), I was just as aerobically fit as I normally would have been. Secondly, those "ski muscles" that tend to get fatigued rather quickly those first few days on the hill, never did, and even the day after was without any muscle soreness

The machine does give you a very good similution of the modern technique with your feet shoulder width apart and the need to ski with your lower body as opposed to your upper body, and if you can handle 30 minutes non stop at anything level 5 or higher maintaining an average of 65-70 "turns" a minute, you'll be amazed at how good of a workout you'll get.

Great machine, IMHO worth the high cost, fun to use, and if you order a new machine directly from the company, their customer service is first rate!

While everyone I know loves their skiiers edge, I've always felt its not for me. During the off seasons I prefere to work my upperbody while maintaining my cardio.

If I was to get a skiiers edge, I know I would stop doing my "cross training" because I would much rather be psuedo-skiing.

More Praise for Skiers Edge

I'll add my praise for the skiers edge. I just started skiing XMas 2004 and I progressed decently last year (probably skiied 7-10 days after my "learn-to-ski" 3 days). Last July bought a skiers edge when they sent me a post card for the sale on the "closeouts" I was kinda skeptical at first about this machine, but I really can't say enough good things about it. This fall I used it to get myself in better cardio shape as well as try to get some better ski-muscle memory. I spent so many years as a dancer that the whole concept of not standing straight up with my butt tucked under me was a hard thing to get myself into on the ski slope. I can tell you that it did a great job at both. My lungs were in great shape - asthmatic so this is a very good thing. I did not get "tired" muscles on the hill like I used to, or be sore/stiff the morning after. Additionally the muscle-memory has allowed me to advance in my skiing much faster than I think I could have otherwise. After my second season skiing (only got out for 10-12 days) I can handle most any skiing I'd want with confidence - note you will not see me trying White Heat or the like ever! I out grew my daredevil days. :)

I just ordered the intermediate Wobble Board, looks like a good place to start...and am accessing the Skier'sEdge vs that "Fitter" machine, which looks like a tuned-down Skier'sEdge...?
Has anyone tried both...?

I used the Fitter when I was rehabbing my knee...great device.

The Fitter is a simpler version of the Skier's Edge...but it isn't all that much less expensive considering. I think it's a better solution for those with no room for a workout machine in their home.

I have room, so I'd get the Skier's Edge if I was in the market.

Make sure you check the bands on them from time to time. As I was working out today one band broke and I almost killed myself.....It could have been bad..I got by with one.
