I saw a quote from Hank in the Wall Street Journal. He chose his words very carefully. He indicated that he would be interested in participating in the purchase, if it ensures the survival of something he loves so much. Read another way, he'd be interested in going in as a shared partner on the investment.
He also said that about purchasing AIG itself. It is all a bunch of B/S. To be honest with you, I have a feeling there won't be a buyer until talks w/ Smuggs can transpire more. I think that Stritzler fella at Smuggs is getting older and someone could pick them up as a package. Another point, is that Stowe is only about 70% complete of their master plan, so the $325million expansion is not necessarily a price-tag.
if the connect ever happened it would make the mansfield area just nuts. in both a good and bad way.
indeed, good and bad. It would be the biggest news in Eastern skiing since the advent of snowmaking. Minus the Pico connect, they might be able to lay claim to having the biggest ski area in the east if it were to happen. It would also get damn crowded because of it.
It would be good for Bolton and Jay as well. Smuggs is an affordable option for locals, a connection to Stowe would end that, so those skiing on a budget would look to those two areas and the Bush.
Sure, Smuggs is affordable, but not worth the lines on weekends if you ask me. You spend more time in line and on the lifts than skiing.
Wouldn't surprise if Stowe was sold though the number of interested buyers may be dwindling with the current economic situation. A few months ago I heard a rumor that Hank Greenberg was trying to buy Stowe. The person from whom I heard the rumor works at Stowe. They also said they didn't think Greenberg would be able to pull it off.
