Just saw this....

So..."our goal with paid parking is to reduce the amount of cars driving all the way up to the mountain, but we also want to increase the number of available parking spots in one of our on mountain lots by almost 1/3". Sure...that isn't at all contradictory...

I don’t think it is unless there was enough parking spots to start with.

? One of their stated goals/reasons for paid parking was to "reduce traffic" going all the way up the access road. How is adding almost 90 more spots at one of the lots at the end of the access road in line with that goal? The only way 90 additional cars get to those spots is by driving up the access road.

Agreed, but you still aren’t going to stop all cars up the road so you do need enough spots to accommodate them.

I imagine part of it is a negotiation tactic. I.e. say you want 1/3 more spots but you can live with half that.

Just saw this....

“When asked by the board how the corporation arrived at the number 86 for expanding the mountain’s main lot, director of resort operations Matthew Lillis said the resort was looking to maximize parking onsite without having to create entirely new parking lots, which he said would help with existing parking demand and won’t create additional traffic to the mountain.”

“Won’t create additional traffic” … yeah right

The reality is that 86 cars, is what, maybe 350 or so people?? And given Stowe's lift capacity per hour, that's really a negligible effect. Now if they were looking to build say a 500 car parking structure, that's a different situation for sure

I'm sure there's plans for a multi level garage replacement of the Mansfield lots... with a smaller parking deck alternative - all set to fall back on as well.

"Epically said. I could not have said it better."
