Thinking of you guys. Miss those kind of days. Nothing like flying through powder in New England hardwoods. That looks amazing!
speaking of hard wood. . . . . . geez... . its a Christmas ( Thanksgiving) miracle. Thx for the visuals - nothing like ski porn in the morning. . . woods. . .

I'll be at Stowe next Saturday. Please keep snowing! We have our local Ullr fest tomorrow night at Roundtop. Skis will be sacrificed in the bonfire, which makes Ullr happy!

Sounds like great air to breathe! Hopefully they are just burning old school wooden skis but even those still have a lot of bad stuff in them, guess Vail isn't so environmentally friendly!

Dude get a grip. Its a 25 foot tall bonfire started with gas. Someone's been running some sort of gas powered yard machjne down the street for 2 hours. That's much more harmful to the environment...

And yes in years past its been an old wood based pair of skis no bindings

If only burning one pair of skis that's no big deal, you made it sound like a bonfire of skis.

So you think burning modern skis and breathing that in isn't an issue?
Who's going to stand close enough to the fire and breath in the smoke? This kind of ritual happens all the time. We used to do this at Sunday river and there is one that happens every year at Sugarbush. It's a tradition and no one has ever complained about any fumes or smoke issues. I think you have to see it an dunderstand it before casting judgement. BTW, anybody who has old skis just throws them in, bindings and all where I come from.

What's more interesting is when some wingnut throws fire works in the fire. LOL Glad I haven't seen a stunt like that since college in the 80's

Yes the fire is hot and in there is a barrier set plenty far enough back.

Switching gears, my buddy Ryan built a ski tree from the old rental skis. They were going to throw them away but they gave them to him. Here is a like to Facebook where he talks about the 10' tree he built at the mountain.

Here is a picture of the 20' tall one he built at his house. He wants to build the world record tree for Roundtop next year on their 60 year anniversary.

Yeah he did his research on them. He does metal fabrication and design for a lot of higher end applications so he has the tools and know how.

I think there is one in Steamboat somewhere too. He used to live there.

Mike Hayes Finds Deep Powder In Vermont in November. Stowe or back/side-country nearby I believe : ) Pretty incredible for a early season end of November run.
