It's good right now. Only had an hour window today and bypass woods delivered.

Just went for pizza at Piecasso. Dry on the way in. Walked out to big fat dendrites pounding down and almost 1/2 inch already.

Forecast is 1-3" tonight. 3 weeks ago when I was here 1-3" turned into 9". Fingers crossed!

Hey, I was enjoying Piecasso Saturday night and Stowe’s woods on Sunday!

Any suggestions for more open woods there? Love the steepness, and the snow, but most of those trees are tight!

I find the trees anywhere between Liftline and Hayride to be pretty open for the most part. At least up high. For example the pic above was between Starr and Lookout.

Thanks. Guess I have to try a little harder to find them. Most of the time I found myself prefering the mogul lines on the sides of the trails while my son was skiing the woods. It's been about a decade since I was at Jay, but I used to love their glades like Timbuktu.

Nosedive glades & Mary Mason glades (skiers left, Lower National) are more forgiving.

Also Birch, Christy & Sunrise glades are well spaced, but low angle. They're off Toll Road and Chapel Lane.

My two cents is that if you take the S-53 traverse and drop in pretty much anywhere, it's steep but pretty widely spaced and not many trouble areas. If you don't like it you're never far from a trail so it's easy to traverse out.

I'd agree with this

I found the trees to be easier than bouncing down starr or lookout.
There was one particularly nasty section of, I think it was, Starr where the trees were my savior. Otherwise, I rather enjoyed bouncing down those trails. It is in my name, afterall.

It just seemed like when I stayed in the trees too long I would quickly run into tight, single track, luge runs with no way to avoid, or even see, what might lurk below.

I did find Christy, and yes that is the kind of spacing I was hoping for. It reminded me of a flatter Timbuktu.

Starr has a plummet in the middle...good place to get back in the trees.
Same as lookout...nice little cliff drop.

Today was really great. Tons of vert with lots of powder and few peeps. Legs are not yet in mid-season form, but working on it.

Snowing again now... thank a slug!

Took a couple laps this afternoon right when the snow kicked back in.

Good stuff!

Sad I had to leave today...snow was already starting to come down when I left. Amazing how effortless getting 30k vert is at Stowe...I felt like I struggled to get to 20k at Jay yesterday. Could've pushed for 40 but had to get out of town so I quit an hour early (after starting 30 minutes later than I wanted and taking an hour lunch).

Most runs were taken in the aforementioned S-53 traverse zone as the woods were just super sweet and there were still untracked lines right out in the open even at 2:30. The limited nats I skied on that side were alright. Massive bumps coated in powder. Surprising amount of crap underneath though...even with all the nickel and dime snow events this year there hasn't been a big multi footer to really bury the crap.

I did a little exploring off the Gondy for a few runs, first checking out the woods on skiers right of Chin Clip which may have been the softest woods on the mountain. Nothing untracked that I could find but the snow was just unbelievably good. Chin Clip appears to have been groomed recently...no bumps to be found. Searched Gondolier for a few lines but didn't feel like ending up in a ravine so I didn't really delve too far into anything. Finally I did the Kitchen Wall Traverse which was more traversing than skiing. But really neat skiing under the cliffs. I'm sure it's more interesting approaching from the Nosedive end. One of these days I'll get more adventurous and check out more stuff over there.

May head back up next weekend. It's too good right now to not keep going back.

Let me know if you find some skis.
Between that and skiing Green Beret yesterday, I think I skied the two New England trails/areas with the most AZ notoriety in two days. But no brown snow on Green Beret or skis in Kitchen Wall found.
