too close to NYC
Nosedive glades & Mary Mason glades (skiers left, Lower National) are more forgiving.

Also Birch, Christy & Sunrise glades are well spaced, but low angle. They're off Toll Road and Chapel Lane.
Thanks for this -- and all the other suggestions posted yesterday! I will be trying them out on my next trip to Stowe.

Took next Monday and Tuesday off so I'll be back. A little afraid of the freezing rain forecast at the end of Thursday's storm, but hopefully even if it does crust everything up there will be enough snow on the back end (plus more snow on Saturday) to cover up the crust nicely.

Thinking of going to Stowe this weekend. How has parking been this season? I assume the main lot still fills up Sat/Sun, but how early? If the main lot is full, you park down by the cross country center and ride a shuttle, right? Do the cross country center lots fill up?

Thanks.

On a snowy weekend all the lots will fill up. Get there by 8 and be prepared to pay for parking. If you want to park for free be there by 730 at the latest. You will park at the toll house lot or cross country and take the shuttle to the mountain. Snow is great

Main Mansfield lot costs $30 before 2pm Fri/Sat/Sun unless you have 4 people in your car

considering parking at the XC center, skiing half a day at Stowe, then taking the historic Bruce trail back to the XC center.

appreciate any advice with this plan

1) Bruce trail leads into the Stowe XC network, so I need to buy a $25 XC backcountry ticket online to ski through their network back to the XC center parking lot
2) I also need to check in / register in person at the XC center day of.
3) It is OK to ski into their system using alpine equipment, they’re not going to be annoyed that I’m fucking up their groomed XC tracks ?
4) Bruce > Burt is best way back to XC parking lot ? Or is there a better route to avoid the uphill at the end of Burt, maybe Burt > Cross Cut 2 > Timberlane ?
5) At start of day, from XC center, better to take shuttle bus to chairlifts or skate over to toll house lift ?
6) How does steepness of Bruce compare to Goat, Starr, etc ?
7) Backcountry safety gear - friend, satellite iPhone, whistle, water, etc

I don't think you really need to get a pass and check in with anyone. They're used to people skiing the Bruce etc. they just want you to pay if you're going backcountry touring out there.

I tried this a few weeks ago and it's a lot of skating to get back to the XC center... or I made a few wrong turns. Getting to Timberlane is your best bet but there's some uphill required.

Commodores is sold out this weekend so will be checking out the Northern Lights Lodge (which is much closer to the ski area). Reviews seem good and they actually have free breakfast.
