Well it remains to be seen, but I read on the Sugarloaf forum (via K2trav) that they will attempt to open Oct 26 and do weekends until Thanksgiving.

I'd believe it, be some great PR for SR, and they've got one of the best locations for early season snowmaking in the northeast.

EDIT: I meant SL, thanks snowman.

Best location and best lift orientation. The timberline base is over 3K ft and they could easily download on the superquad.

The island of misfit toys.
I still wonder if Killington is setting up to surprise us all though...

I bet not. Anyone notice their CT Ski Council discount ticket price is the highest of the resorts ($50)? That's not a surprise based on earlier comments from Powdr. So I suspect they mean it when they say they are not going for early opening. But hey, but it would be nice if I am wrong :)

I agree. But I'm all about good PR and creating a buzz so I think they have a great opportunity to over-deliver after all the under-promises. Not holding my breath either though.

I don't see how an October opening at Sugarloaf would be feasible since the loaf is so far from almost everywhere...first lets see if temperatures co-operate..October can sometimes be almost as warm as the summer..due to Indian Summer

Sugarloaf has opened by Halloween several times in the past with top to bottom skiing without having to up/download people. Mainly it would be a marketing thing, but there are plenty of locals who will come out for it. They also have a new snowmaking pumphouse up the mountain which should help them along as well. They are further north than any VT ski areas, so if anyone will have the conditions to blow snow, they will.

You're right. They should just close the place entirely.

The Loaf is only ~4 hours from metro Boston. If they were the only one open, I bet many folks would make the drive. At about 6 hours, I wouldn't be one of them though.

It makes alot of sense. The chance of the base melting is less there. Again early season they come out of the woodwork. I would venture most who would drive to SR early season would make a day trip for at least one day to the Loaf.

Last year at the River's opening weekend.... lets just say I saw a few people. Lets not forget there are some new owners in the east trying to win maket share. The chance of selling day tickets is higher also. Pass holders from other mountiains will be jonesing. The braggign rights of makign turns in Oct.... Only question is will the snow hold?

Check the update released on 9/6/07. Killington is nowhere to be found.
