If I were a Kmart fanboy I'd be embarrassed by the fact that there isn't enough snow to hold their premier spring event on the mountains signature trail. They need to rename the event. :snow:

Sorry Mainers, but when you live in Central VT you have more than 2 choices.
Actually, Stowe, Bush and MRG are where we go when the snow accommodates.
K's Glacier makes for excellent spring skiing. Access Rd offers superior night life.
That is all.

Enjoy your lobster.

Someone clue-in DHS with the proper signal so she will hike the ball. Rah, Rah.

I think that that came down to the decision, a decision that i'm quite sure was driven by the bean counters in Utah at the Powdr mothership, rather than by Mike S and crew at K, that their snowmaking budget had a hard maximum amount, regardless of the circumstances, and the ops folks at K made the call to put a bit more snow on Superstar rather than put a bit less on Superstar and a bit more on OL (which likely would of necessitated using more of that finite snowmaking budget on a few other trails at Bear to keep it accessible for the BMMC) - tough call, but i'm guessing a call that when K is likely the last man standing this season (and probably by a few weeks), a call that the K faithful will be happy they made.......

Why do killington people always show up in threads like this and shit on other areas. Noone really cares. All youre doing is living up to a stereotype and a lame one at that.

From the very first post in this thread:

Interesting Sugarloaf is making snow today.
Got to think its for Reggaefest marketing, but was their a little bit of a shot across the bow to Killington with the "King of Spring" video. Got to love it.

Sounds more like Sugarloaf and its fanboys are the ones obsessed with K.

I'm right here in the sweet spot of NH.We have way more options in range than just the Beast to be a fan of.As is well known,I'm primarily a Cannon skier but any doofus who would dis Sugarloaf as lame loses all credibilty. Are you going to tell us now how great a skier you are?Highwaystar the 2nd I'm guessing.

I'm actually a Sugarbush skier. Stiens at Sugarbush with it's northern exposure could hold out as long as superstar at Killington. But a trail thats open(superstar) thru the middle of may that normally has mandatory walking, whats the point.

Let's check back tomorrow after this Monsoon moves through the region....Then we'll know if this April snowmaking was a good idea or not.

This F'n winter just sucks!! Ole man winter needs to go bitch slap Mother Nature...At least, let us finish the season with "something" to ski!!

Agree!!!

Just how many times did we see mountain ops go over and above to recover from a warm and wet event, and get things back to decent shape, only to have mother nature send another warm and wet event through the region often on a Thursday or Friday and have the mountain ops crews scrambling once again to either quickly top dress a few trails with some snowmaking and/or try to in some dust on crust!!

Just a bad weather pattern and awful timing!!

Actually OL has enough snow on it to hold the event (looked at it Wed.). A lot more snow than Highline has. I think the decision was made to hold it on Highline because Bear would be isolated from the rest of the mountain. There is no way to ski there from the rest of the mountain. Without people having a way to ski there would affect the number of spectators & more importantly F&B sales. It would be to expensive to open Bear up just so the contestants can make a run.

Wonder if having a South Ridge lift would have allowed them to use OL.
