..... I guess their Japanese Snow didn't work.

actually it did work and if you go to www.snowmagic.com you can see that they now use systems around the US and overseas. Every new idea has its flaws and it did work for what it was worth, it however does work better for INDOOR parks. Mobile, Alabama is on their second year of OUTDOOR use ... check out the website, its worth a minute of your time before you start making assumptions...like you've all been doing throughout this thread on Tenney closing...assumptions and speculations...

just my .02!

Well. Someone is having a bad day

I see that this is your first post on this thread and you seem to :flame: folks and their ideas on this topic.

A response:

1). Snomagic SOLD Tenney in January. That is not speculation. That is a fact. Their project at Tenney did not work. The summer skiing was only in 2003. You need only ask some of our posters who bought season passes and were burned when they did not open for Fall skiing. That is not speculation. That is a fact.

2). I am not sure what "assumptions" you are talking about. Sure the technology is working in Alabama and other places. How is this relevant to Tenney? It's not.

You've just broadsided us here. If you "are in the know," feel free to share the info. Maybe you should take Zowi420's lead. Tenney is closed this year. That is a fact and not an assumption. We have discussed some possible reasons for why they "may" be closed, but this is just for conversation.

We're a bunch of folks here talking about skiing and riding. Credibility is important to all of us. You've claimed that we're not being credible...without any specific instances or cites.

Sorry if you're upset, but your views are always welcome.

And if you have personal issues, you are welcome to PM me or any one of the mods.

I've been skiing at (while they are open for business) Tenney for the past 20-years or so and have always enjoyed the terrain and the "locals" feeling. Even when they unfortunately cut open some of the best glade skiing found around the Rte. 93 Ski Region.

With previous ownership apparent belief (and current?) that adding a condominium base was/is necessary for the Ski Operations to survive, the mountain has not improved to draw "destination skiers" to the mountain on a regular basis. And although many of the arguments posted here may merit some thought, the new owners appear to be doing what they believe is in the their best interest. I suppose they have studied the mountain operations balance sheets and appear not ready to incur forecasted loses as previous owners have just to say they are open.

Being a skier who has been there year after year and disappointed they won’t be open, instead of beating the new owners up, I believe in giving them an opportunity to open next season and possibly be better than before. However unlike Crotched Mountain, Tenney won’t see any pre-season pass purchases from me next season.

Seems to me that there prabably will still be skiing there if they see snow, but the public won't be invited. Any kind of partnership with EMS will include cross country or telemark skiing with a non-lift service slant.

Hay melts snow! You'd see more ski areas use it in the winter if it didn't, it'd be a lot cheaper than the expensive padding!

What are you talking about
HAY INSULATES THE SNOW

If you just spread a few pieces here and there it will be warmed by the sun and melt snow. HOWEVER if you put down a thick layer of hay that is fluffed up it acts as an insulator. Burke used to use hay to preserve a patch of snow until June that people would go catch a few turns on. When they were ready they would rake the all the snow off and huala! There is the snow!

Resorts use the rubber padding because pieces of it don't get scattered all over the trail by the wind. Try skiing on hay littered snow sometime. It is not ideal. Additionally hay rots and it is hard to move around when it degrades. Plus hay is not exactly cheap at $3.00 a bale (avg.) and it is not reuseable (see "rot" above). The padding may be slid up and down the lift tower as well as the snow level changes. Ever tried to move a frozen haybale :smash: ? On the note of frozen haybales... have you ever crashed into one? :uzi:

This is probably pulling this thread way off topic, but placing a bail of hay next to snow, like they did at Tenney that summer, increases the melting of it (it being the snow, can't say I'm producing decent sentences tonight). Call me an anti-hay-ite if you want...can't stand the stuff, wicked allergic to it...really glad that I don't have to hay anymore, talk about agony!
