Interesting I. That the newer Audi/Porsche electrics appear to be understating their range per this test report. The only 3 or so vehicles that came out better than EPA estimates.I hate the push to electrification. It's too fast. The infrastructure is not there and the technology is not there for companies to be making only all-electric vehicles in the next 5 years. The new electric Silverado is getting "up to 400 miles on a charge". The "fast charging" method for public stations is 10 minutes=100 miles. To me, that's not yet practical. And the reality is that range will be a LOT less doing 75mph on the highway, in winter, with 2 other people in the car. Car and Driver tested this with the EV running at 75mph and recorded the range and compared it to the EPA estimates-
Hydrogen....if it ever gets off the ground.... is the way to go. More environmentally friendly than EV's. Full range with a simple gas station fill-up like traditional ICE vehicles. I think that's going to be where the industry heads long-term and EV's are a stop-gap measure in between as we wait for hydrogen infrastructure to catch up. Both the Hyundai Nexo and Toyota Mirai are picking up steam and their sales numbers are growing exponentially but they're still small numbers at this point.
Pretty sure that didn't use carbon nanocell fuelcell storage system.
Actually that was coming down not going up.
I’m assuming that’s true already. My thought is when we all go electric , electricity will cost more and the grid will be over taxed. Trading one issue for others.
In many places, the grid is unable to support a string of houses trying to charge their vehicles all at once as its sized for the current (no pun intended) usage stats. Going to all electric vehicles will be a major pain until the grid is built out to support it, and ALL of us will be paying for that in higher rates even if we are driving a ras vehicle. As I got a new gas vehicle 5 months ago, I will be using gasoline for quite some time to come.My thought is when we all go electric , electricity will cost more and the grid will be over taxed. Trading one issue for others.
Sadly in New England we have some of the highest electrical rates in the country too.$200 is ridiculous.
My wife's rav4 is approaching replacement. Subaru Solterra appears a viable family ski car. May be worth its own thread but wondering if any ski family's have taken the electric plunge.
My wife's former car (now my daughter's as my wife just got a Volvo XC90 gas/electric hybrid.... 30 miles or so full electric range on a charge ) was/is an Audi Q7 TDI. For a big, full size, heavy, SUV, it still after just over 100k miles, gets 25-28mph depending on how much highway driving is going on, and regularly gets right around 600 miles out of a tank. That 25ish gallon tank in a fill up now with diesel at around $6.50 a gallon by our house currently is definitely eye opening at over $150 if it's close to empty when we fill it up!Makes me miss my wife's TDI. Car only cost us $26K new in 2011, got > 50 GPM constantly. The dieselgate buyback made it tough to keep it though at what they gave us.
Diesel is at $6.80 now locally, many people literally won’t be able to heat their homes at that rate. Never mind how much the cost of goods will go up. Inflation is hitting hard and there aren’t yet signs of it slowing down.
And how is all this electricity generated? My thought is when we all go electric , electricity will cost more and the grid will be over taxed. Trading one issue for others.

Volvo XC90 gas/electric hybrid
Really? We are on our 4th. First two went 150K with no issues and then traded them in for 7K and 10K for new outbacks both around $30K price. With snow tires they go anywhere and kick ass. I disagree with your opinon watching my friends issues with Toyotas, Nisans, Fords and Chevys. The most overrated ski car in existence
Pretty sure that the 2nd row is captains chairs. Will fully admit that I haven't specifically checked on that, and have only ridden in the front row/driven it once since she got it about 2 weeks agoDoes Volvo offer rear captains chairs?
Storing the skis in the car all winter is a game changer, not sure I can go back.
We too have had 9 Suby's with little to no issues.Really? We are on our 4th. First two went 150K with no issues and then traded them in for 7K and 10K for new outbacks both around $30K price.
