AHEM

You definitely didn't see this here.

I love looking at custom maps ! And my memory lapses mean when I see them, I forget them almost immediately...including internet links...

Man...we'd share our last dollar with eachother, but secret stashes on a powder day...the lines get drawn in the sand...

please. the bruce is hardly any BC secret. it is very well documented (at least as far as sidecountry goes) and very well skied and no more a secret than something like tuckerbrook at cannon. if you want to know, buy a copy of david goodman's books. playing dumb about closely guarded secrets is one thing. nobody spills on stashes or unpublisized and undocumented hidden gems. but the well documented sidecountry CCC trails are excellent introductions for folks looking to see what the BC has to offer. i have never skied the bruce for the record.
Thanks for the defense...

To further prove the point, who else read the article in the new Powder Mag about Slidebrook and how to get to the Mother...

Guys...I was just joking about skibum knowing where you live  .

No defense needed.

This discussion brings up some interesting issues...

Alright, I won't do that again.

How does an outsider looking in learn the secret handshake and get to dine at the feast with the other revelers ?

Who gets the secret tap on the shoulder, and who watches, waits and wonders ?

And is it better to bring in a "few good men (and ladies, of course)", or give a universal cold shoulder treatment to "outsiders" that, inevitably, will result in the "banned" outsiders getting together and making less informed, perhaps dangerous, forays into "the territory" that could result in a bigger potential messes, overuse, misuse, bad press (rescues or death) - which then could result in, say, the shut down and/or access restrictions being placed by private or government entities on areas that were previously available to the "right" people, or those in the know, who were trying to be good custodians and do the right thing with regard to these "secret stashes" in the first place ?

No easy answers. But perhaps much to discuss, imho.

Alright, I won't do that again.

Again, my post was a joke; I don't go crazy if someone finds a BC "stash" I consider private. More power to them.

However, I have seen public discussions of BC skiing turn into incredible flame wars when locals who feel their stashes are being outed get involved. It is a touchy subject.

Smoothy makes a great point...how is the beginner BC skier going to learn where to go if they can't ask and get directions? The answer is they'll take risks and jeopardize themselves and possibly others.

I feel the same way as dmc...I'll never tell you where these types of places are, but I'll gladly show you.
