Pinball Alley involved some trail breaking and riders were forced to boot it. As Hawk said, lots of chunky crust under the fluff. Steeper woods were not as good due to the lumpy base.

About the NRX, speculation here that it's delayed due to "permitting" issues seems a bit strange to me. How much permitting is necessary to replace an existing lift with a new one presumably on the exact same footprint?
If the new lift is going to be a HSQ, maybe alterra didnt want to spend the money at mt ellen and the "permitting" delay is a PR/red herring.
That lift has needed to be replaced for years (some might say decades).

I believe that someone posted a link to a development review board meeting in which the SB spokesperson said it was permitting concerns and that it was "too late" to start the order/engineering process (or something to that effect).

Alterra certainly has the money. They just got done spending a foolish amount of money installing a top-to-bottom gondola at Steamboat, so a replacement HSQ should be a simple job.

Interesting...I don't recall that at all. I'm inclined to agree with Howie that permitting shouldn't be a big hurdle at all for NRX. I haven't heard any plans to change alignment at all, so I'd think this permit should be easier than the HG one.

Having the money and spending the money are two entirely different things. Alls I’m saying is it’s very convenient to blame someone else, especially the “permitting” boogeyman. I don’t know anything, but I’d bet if it was the super bravo crapping out all the time, they’d find out a way to get it done.

Thats it guys open the flood gates.
Don’t say that dirty word “flood”

On a personal note, I’m sorry im missing what appear to be ever improving conditions at SB. But I have to visit my son at winter park this week and I somehow convinced my wife to adventure with me to interior BC for presidents weekend. Turns out Canadians dont celebrate us presidents and no Americans vacation at WH2O.

Was just looking through the MRV Planning Commission meeting minutes to see if I could find anything. Closest I could find was this from back in July:

Sugarbush – Summer events, winter preparation. Projects ongoing – Glen House, workforce housing,
Reverse Traverse, updating Master Plan with NFS, 3-acre stormwater permitting. Two lift replacements
upcoming, one in 2024 and one in 2025.

No specifics beyond that, but I'm guessing NRX is the 2025 one (unless something else jumps up the list...but really NRX to me should be the next priority, especially given the ongoing issues it has).

Longtime Lurker first post.

Woods are skiing well, as above posts have mentioned it is a bit crusty underneath but its skiing very well. Get after it before next weeks warmup, I'd say about 10" on top of a solid crust which can be grippy and grabby under mid mountain. Favorite glades have been well skied, but goods are there if willing to do some bushwhacking.

Sugarbush has been going a little wild with their snow reporting, fun to compare our hype numbers to Mad River down the road. 16", 4!! lol, we might've had an inch last night which they reported as 4, seems as if our numbers are hyped with the daily numbers then revised mid day. Just wish our snow reporting team would ease up on the marketing- Crowded as is on the weekends with ikon crowds, but give an honest report and ease up on the hype.

Slidebrook is good, Run out is chop suey with water bars and a plowed low road which meant a long runout on a snowbank, but good turns with a crust- bus will be be busy tomorrow.

Strange new norm with the weather pattern, added with lift challenges especially on crowded weekends. Bravo went on diesel Thursday after close, went down about 2PM today.

Win, question on how much if any glade maintenance is done during the off season. I know due to regulations we are very limited in terms of "cutting season" but always tough to see my favorite glades filling in.

Had a great day today. First runs in Paradise were great before it got scrappy. Woods were hit or miss but plenty of coverage. Middle Earth the best of the Rock but the ROTD was Steins, skiers left under the guns, sweet!

Does anyone know what the deal is with Inverness this year? Semi Tough and Walt’s are listed as open but the quad is not open to the public and has been running at a crawl. A shame since both those trails are hidden gems and a good way to get out of the cold on a day like today.

Don't know about the chair. But semi tough was excellent today. Probably because of the chair being down.

Though I should be skiing today's nice conditions, I'm relaxing at home; here's an interesting ski article...a little long, but much to relate to:

Are there any lifts at Sugarbush that are running without any issues?
