any idea how much GMVS pays Sugarbush to have their semi-private mountain? It must be a lot of $$$
If they really are short on water, I wonder if they run a weighted average using the revenue from Season Pass Sales and Cash from GMVS & split the water up accordingly.
It would be the numbers way of doing it but they already have season pass $, GMVS money comes later in the game, right to the bottom line.

GMVS money for this year already in SB hands. Also all GMVS kids, including Junior (weekend) Program kids, pay full boat for passes in the spring and summer (not the HS pass rate) in addition to the extra fees for hill use and snowmaking.

GMVS paid for the T bar over there, a groomer and pay part for the power I believe. I also don't mind it closed. it means less tracked for the initiated. ;-)

Ellen and LP are different water sources. It's cheaper to run snowmaking during the day and not risk GMP power curtailments at night. Glad to see HG progressing and hope it works out. Hopefully the water issue gets Alterra to look at more water storage and more uphill water pumping capacity.

Wasn't there some plan for a second snow making pond for LP that would be located much further uphill? Whatever happened to that?
Where the tennis courts were across from Sugarbush Inn, I think. Don't know where that is in the process or if thar's even the spot, but I know they want something further up the hill than Rt 100.

Similarly, wasn't there a proposal under ASC to connect North to South for water? I think it was going to be a pipeline that would have fed the pond at North.

Tower gun on opposite VH lodge. Hopefully means they are moving up that side.
Edit: Didn't see the new report updated today. Looks like that side will get the goods. Hopefully VH on the weekend?

From the snow report
We'll be spinning the Gate House Quad with Pushover, Slowpoke, Sugarbear Road, Lower Pushover, and even the rare Pushover Chute opening

Pushover Chute... the Rob Roy of the south... open for Day 1!

(actually pretty easy to do... stretch some hoses from HS 3-4 down or from Pushover 2 or 3 up)

That would be a big BOO - HISS... hope you are wrong on that.

He's not. That's normal. ME won't open to the public until the weekend before Christmas. That isn't going to change anytime soon.

The blog did mention low water supply, but it also said they were going to light up Valley House.

Still no guns on anywhere today.

My best guess is they were letting the pond refill at least a bit before trying to make more snow.

That blog post had nothing really note-worthy in it. Pretty much in line with what I expected to be said...

Sunapee, Ragged and Wawa will all open this week with more vertical. Berkshire East will open Sat. They just really aren’t trying and it’s quite obvious. Zero excuse for not having access to the summit Quad by now and the 2-3ft of natural, and at a min 1 run off Lynx and something off VH.
They really really don’t care at all and it shows. Damn shame.

They've lucked out some other years with either decent early natural snow or being able to open higher elevation terrain to hide the weaknesses of their snow-making system. They simply can't pump enough GPMs in short windows and don't have the water storage capacity to mitigate risks of drought (or frozen rivers like they had some other years that also resulted in low flow in the Mad River).

This isn't anything new. It just is more visible this year. This isn't the first time we've talked about this topic.

Just to add...I do disagree with Cheetah's comments that "they aren't trying". That's not fair to the people working on the mountain. They are just limited by the resources available to them.

The snowmaking system at Lincoln is more than capable of performing better than you're seeing. They either made a conscious decision or the pond is an issue.

From today's blog post about ops...

"As anyone living in the northeast knows, we’ve been suffering through a drought for the vast majority of summer and fall. That has continued into early winter. What it unfortunately means is that our snowmaking ponds, and the Mad River, are at a much lower level than is historically the case for this time of year. That has an effect on our snowmaking capabilities. While we will continue making snow as much as we can moving forward, we will need to do it at a lower capacity given our water limitations."

Sounds like the pond has absolutely been an issue...
