Quite annoying

I don't post often but I check in on AZ almost every day. After two years of election nonsense and politics I find it quite annoying that this thread was not removed from the skiing forum by moderators.

I come here to read about a shared passion for skiing, if I want either Democrat or Republican talking points then there are a million other sites that specialize in those topics.

If the forum isn't going to be kept to skiing discussion then I will find somewhere else to lurk.

If you must know, we already took a look at this thread. No doubt that HPD tried to crowbar a political statement in here, but I think there's a different overall theme to it and most of the replies have followed suit. We've decided to just roll with it for now.

Not moderating enough gets criticised as much as overmoderation. You just can't please everyone, but I think overall we do a fair job. Your threat to leave is more over the top than the post HPD started this thread with IMO.

If you didn't participate to begin with, you won't really be missed. Since when are blueberry pancakes political? Or do you prefer raspberries? :p

True -- Greg : you and your mod squad guys do a very decent job of moderating. We all know that role is like trying to "herd cats " If the lad wants to go well then-- BBFN

It’s time to get rid of something that doesn’t work and go in a new direction.
It’s time to stop listening to those who tell us what to fear and vote for hope.
Time to get the economy back in shape and stop supporting an economic policy that only favors big business.
It’s time to invest in alternative energy and not relay on fossil fuels.
It’s time for smart diplomacy and stop exhausting diplomatic options.
It’s time to provide health care for everyone and not just for those who have means.
It’s time to empower women and support their issues.

So anyways, to save money I’m going to have the family eat breakfast before we get to the mountain instead of eating in the cafeteria. I’m going to make pancakes on a low energy hot plate. I’m a little afraid it will take too much time, but I hope it works out. I think the smart way to go about it is to tell my wife it will be healthier eating at home. I hope she doesn’t have an issue with it, but if she does I’ll support her.

What?

Mans gotta have a plan HPD, good for you!!!!

Interesting way to treat a new forum member. :???:

i think this place welcomes anyone with relative open arms. But to make that kind of post when you havent contributed anything to this place is rather arrogant to say the least. If i came to your house as a stranger and told you what you should or shouldnt talk about, would you be willing to accomodate that demand or would you tell me to go pound sand?

Wow, what a welcoming crowd! I couldn't care less about the election, which is why I was anxious to get away from the news and check out alpine zone, but it looks like you guys spilled politics on my skiing. I also wonder if a GOP talking point post would have made it through the moderation process.

Also when you live in Delaware you can't eat breakfast before you leave for the mountain, because everything is so far away that you'll need another meal when you get there.

Back on the food topic

In general I've found working in my current position has led me to being much more resourceful in general with food and try to use either a whole animal or muscle when I can. I think about 'food' differently.

Instead of just buying boneless breasts of chicken, I'll buy a whole five pound bird and be able to have chicken breast for dinner for J and I, be able to make 6-10 servings of soup and enough scrap for many philly chicken sandwiches for essentially the same amount of money.

With Beef or Pork, instead buying just steaks or pork chops, I'll buy a whole Strip loin or Pork Loin for much less per pound, butcher it myself into many meals and use the scrap for burritos. What I'd really like to do though is get a grinder/sausage stuffer and start making my own sausage.

I'm intrigued by fish, but haven't worked much with butchering whole fish. Then again many kinds of fish are far too large for working with whole at home. Lobsters now I always save the bodies and make stock for soups and sauces.

Only real issue is I obviously end up having to freeze a lot of stuff when fresh is always better. I suppose that will become less of an issue when J and I have kids.
