Tragedy on Everest

I know this is primarily a New England forum, but I'm surprised the tragedy on Mt. Everest has not been discussed. If the mods think this should be discussed in another category, by all means please move it. I just think it would get more traction here.
I guess since the goal is to reach the summit it's more of a climbing achievement. Seems kind of silly to me to climb all that way just to walk down. Haven't read a whole lot about the incident, but what I gather is that the men who perished were Sherpas who were swept away when the slab they were walking on broke away. These guys apparently support there entire extended family for the whole year by lugging gear for high rolling climbers in the few short weeks of the season. It's not my thing and I don't really get it(climbing to the Earth's ceiling) but can certainly appreciate the situation of the Sherpas. To me, that makes it all the more tragic.
Sux when anyone passes on, especially those who go before there time when so many are depending on them.
