On Monday, alongside its earnings, Vail Resorts announced a $254 million upgrades and improvements capital investment plan for the 2025 calendar year, focusing on enhancing its ski resorts across the United States, Australia, and Switzerland.
No mention of any capital investment in their Eastern resorts :(

Typically they have announced improvements in mutliple stages. The "big" projects at this time of year earnings report, and then often there will be some others, including lifts at times in the mid to late ski season time frame, often not too long before next season's Epic Passes go on sale. Who knows if that will or won't be the case this year? Time will tell I guess

Nope, this is it for lifts. They announce in either September or December earnings, more recently September. Maybe in 2026.

Read about our big plans. Just don't pay attention to this

Not true. The Sundance 6 pack and Sunbrook Quad lift upgrades for Mount Snow were announced in the February/March timeframe back in 2022.

Most of their lift announcements, for sure, are announced at this quarterly shareholders call historically, but not all of them.

I would be surprised if they make any lift announcements in a few months, this season though

Nope. These lifts were announced in September 2021 earnings release.

I will stand corrected then. Sometimes the memory blurs a bit over time! Just one of the joys of the aging process ;)

Vail routinely puts out their lift instals in September to push Epic Pass sales. The fact that only 1 lift was announced this fall indicates they are going to have a very slow summer of improvements.
The number of lifts Vail needs to seriously consider replacing now to soon is pretty surprising. Safe to say that's not happening at a publicly traded company, so the aging process will simply continue.

That and their debt will come due soon. Yes they have whatever $1.0 Bn of cash on hand but it’s going to evaporate real quick and the house of cards will collapse.

Well, at Crotched today and Rocket just went down. Guess they lost power last night and it got pissed off. Seemed to run fine my first 2 rides, then it started stopping a lot.
It was unfortunate: There was a power outage at 3:15PM yesterday for an extended region that involved the ski area and (according to Eversource) about 1000 homes in the area. Strangely enough, only half the Mountainside Condo complex was affected. It was finally repaired at about 7:00 PM.

Within a half hour of the power outage, the diesel backup motor was on and all those on the lift were safely off the lift. I was unfortunately stuck at Tower 11 which is the "wind tunnel" and was relieved when the lift crew responded so quickly and so effectively. I wasn't there today, so I can't tell you what was going on today

Not sure, first few rides lift seemed fine. But around noon, started stopping and eacht ime they tried to restart it, it would creep forward and stop. Several of those in a row then it would run at speed for a few minutes then stop again. FInally they pulled the plug. Valley fired right up and was fine as an alternative for the afternoon.

Remember, each successive new CEO gets to change direction....its Mgmt pivot 101.
Nothing the prior CEO did is ever bad but new CEO always gets to rewrite narrative. "we've learned, customers spoke, demand changed, climate exposiure adjustment, opportunity to consolidate to core commonalities, etc, etc. (happens enough then you eventually come full circle)
Debt will be restructured. Those aggregated random local Mtns that were supposedly feeders, get sold, you dont have to feed them any pass revenue or deal with ever shortening seasons or address lift infrastructure and you get some cash, maybe .30/$1.

They spent a lot at Hunter this summer, new lift that goes only about 100" higher than the what they replaced, but it is a 6 vs 4 pack. Stopped about 8 times today when I was on it. Closed to the public for maintenacne, briefly..... the off loading is built for 6 year olds, so so low, and then it is flat so snowboarders can't move out of the way fast enough.... And now there are lift towers in the middle of the midstation area and the gun hill trail....noone can figure out the logic.........

Crazy investment.
