Confusing this is.....

That Fox story above didnt fare much better in trying to decipher it.

Pass Holders will be given a 50% credit per day they skied from Dec. 27 to Jan. 8, with those credits only able to be used towards buying another pass for next season. Lift ticket guests will also be offered 50% credit for the price paid for each day they skied.

Huh?

Yeah, kinda difficult to come up with a dollar calculation for pass holders because the monetary value per day for a pass holder is dependent on how many days per season they use their pass.

I would have probably gone with a simple round number of $100 per day credit for everyone. In doing so, you likely maintain most of your pass base, especially the destination pass holder who used it 7 days on a vacation and will get a pass next year for like 75% off. On the flip side you lose most all of those day ticket holders, but Vail obviously cares very little about those folks any way. Maybe you maintain some of them if you say their credit can be used towards day tickets at any Vail resort or they can apply it towards a season pass product. The thought there is maybe a NYC / Boston skier who bought a Park City day ticket won't come back there to ski for $228, but might go to Mt Snow for $83. This assumes holiday rates of $328 for PC and $183 for Snow.

The crazy thing is the only reason we all went was because my daughter's kiddie clinic started. We were intentionally avoiding the mess, but it looks like that one class being scheduled might save us a nice piece of coin as all 3 of us had our EPIC passes scanned that day.
It’s sort of a smart move by them really. People who were adamant they are done with Epic, but now can get money off next years pass….well maybe they are not done with Epic after all.

It wasn’t about the money. It was about how the raises would impact the entire Vail system.

And A-Basin just voted to unionize.

Now the people who refused to show up during the **** show are mad because they're not getting a discount, but still feel "impacted" - seeing a bunch of comments like that. Mostly locals, but also peeps who cancelled vacations, etc...

Well, didn't you suffer some emotional distress? I think you deserve compensation. ;)

Maybe I should sue because I've been wanting to use my Epic Day Pass at Wildcat, but they've offered no worthy product for me to consider going there!

It would seem like that's a pretty fair claim for someone who booked a vacation with prepaid epic lift access, saw the reports, and paid walk up rates for lift access elsewhere.

Locals were certainly impacted but the number of impacted days versus days they hopefully expect to use their passes is a very different ratio. I'd still be annoyed in their shoes, but if you want to talk about actual value impact, it's a lot different than a one-time family trip.

The problem for locals in SLC and Denver is it's now basically a duopoly. You really can't speak with your wallet.

Only going to get worse from a traffic and crowding perspective. While jealous of the quality of terrain and snow, I am not envious of what the future looks like for skiers in those cities.

At least here in the Northeast there are still many independent and low key options and we don't have near the traffic problems. Let's hope we've seen the last of Epic and iKon expansion here

Snowbasin & Sundance are more low-key options; and Deer Valley limits tickets (for those who can afford Deer Valley of course). And Park City isnt really crowded despite what virtually everyone says, assuming you know the place & know where to go. It's sort of like tourists claiming all of NYC is so crowded you cant move, because they're all going to Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and the same 4 museums. That could change if the Front's four resorts all become so teeming that people drive over the mountains to the Back. That's the scenario I worry about.

Yeah, I agree 100%. The folks from Missouri who cancelled last minute and rebooked costing their family $3,000 extra or more elsewhere should be royally pissed.

I really have no sympathy for locals who missed a few days of skiing. Boo hoo. Frankly I think it's hysterical I'm going to save about $500 next year for something I had no choice but to purchase anyway. I consider my self lucky.

When your ****-** reaches the WSJ, you've hit the bigtime.

Like I said many moons ago, when the CEO steps down, that would be the 1st tell. That happened. And things are predictably falling apart soon after. Publicly traded roll-up stories are all the same, regardless of the industry. It's like watching Hallmark. There are dozens of movies, but only about 3 tiny plot variations.

If you want to get a private pilot's license, the cost per day is roughly the same. Say $175 per hour for the plane for a few hours, and $85 per hour for the instructor. lol

I guess that's good that you don't have to deal with the same traffic for PC areas as the horror stories you hear about the Cottonwoods on the weekends.

The other half of my point remains in that if you want to stick it to Vail, your options are more limited than here. The NY crowd could switch to Bell / Gore / WF. Killington now independent again too and doesn't appear too impacted by iKon. Boston crowd has many options. Indy being a very good one for us. I'd probably be a Cannon pass holder if I didn't drive so damn much for work. That's the primary reason I buy a Gunstock Pass. The quick Sunday commutes.
