Do not ski Mt.Sunapee. I got plowed into by a crappy skier and wrecked my shoulder. It was like a hit and run. The dude comes over to me and says "Are you alright"? "I got to catch up to my kids" Too which I respond "AAAgh". Then the guy leaves before I could come to my senses and pole whip him. The slopes there are too crowded.

Skyway is a disaster. It all started after the Patriots season was over. Presidents Weekend will be the Dangerzone at the pee. By 10:00 am the day is over. It won't be normal till late March!

Don't matter much to me. Time to see the orthopedic surgeon

Anthem BCBS will save me, at 429 a month is a bargain now

That's why I ski Sunapee/Okemo/Stratton on weekdays only. And also that is what my pass allows.

I got pulled over going to Sunapee on 103 Friday and got off with a warning. But, was pissed I was pulled over when the guy I was 150 yds. behind didn't. Maybe because the other guy was in an Audi wagon and I was in my dirty Xterra (though it is a 2006). Believe the cop didn't ticket me as I was headed to the mountain...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I try and ski on weekdays only. I find the weekend brings out too many animals.

The high speed gaper. His skiis doing speed wobbles. Mt Sunapee has the worst skiers on the planet. No etiquette, clueless wonders!

Watch out for the Newbury locals...I read that on Snowjournal last season and sure enough, on my next trip, they had speed traps on 103 right where the speed limits go down to 30 MPH.

Sucks you got hurt... What was the exact injury...? There's a couple of us here that have been through various shoulder injuries if you need some advice, etc...

One thing though - to the board - isn't this where everyone chimes in how they got hit somewhere? Of is that only snowboarder on skier collisions?

I think everybody is being too harsh. I ski there a lot since it is only a hour to get there and I like to back up to the slopes inorder to switch skis easily. There are some slopes that are crowded. Such as Ridge, Chipmunk. You need to know where to go and the people that ski there a lot know how to avoid the crowds. So do not knock a resort for how crowded it is. This is how we are allowed to ski weekdays, becuase the crowds on the weekends.:x

I haven't been there in 4 years or so but I've heard that it's gotten pretty crowded the last couple years.

yeah, ive had a couple operations on my shoulder, went to school for it... so if you need to know anything related to the shoulder let me know.

I bike a lot in the summers. When you bike, it is not a matter of IF you crash, just when and how bad. Skiing is the same way. That resort is crowded on weekends, always has been. Just something you have to prepare for.

.....

Hope ya' heal successfully haines.
I just had two pins/screws put into small broken bone @base of thumb, in order for a clean heal(let's hope), last Thursday. That's the last time I'll use a hand to help in sitting down while moving a little...in snow...with skis on...and with pole still in hand

Actually I was pulled over right across from the Sunoco. Believe it was a Bradford cop.

Weekdays aren'r crowded at all, except last Friday as there were 200-300 girls racing there. Though the only places that were crowded were the lodges and parking lot...

Most resorts are crowded on weekends.....unfortunately, we don't have a choice but to ski on weekends, since we have a Mon-Fri job. I also have only been at my recent job for just under a year and the vacation time that I have accumulated is already spoken for, so we just deal with it. Like you said, try to find slopes that aren't as crowded. Ski while everyone else is eating and eat before or after everyone else.

I don't know about that... over the years I've come to believe that there is a bad vibe at Sunapee altogether. I'm a skier, so do NOT take this as a skiier/snowboarder bashing story, this is just how this particular event went down:

I was there earlier in the season and was on a lift with an older gentleman who looked like he had been skiing since it was invented. There were a lot of snowboarders on the mountain and the guy started grumbling about them and how "all they did was cause problems and blah blah blah blah blah." Then he said, "Want to see how to mess these guys up?" When we got off the lift the guy starts to snowplow very slowly down the trail until he sees a boarder riding down. He speeds up suddenly, gets in the guy's way, and the poor guy had to purposely fall to avoid a collision. As soon as the boarder goes down, the skier picks up the pace and jets down the rest of the mountain.

This isn't the first time I've seen Jerkery going on over at Sunapee, just the most recent.

That is a completely lame thing to do. Does this warrant notifying ski patrol? In my opinion something like this is WAY worse than sking on a closed trail (in which case your risking your own neck and not really endangering others).

IMO, worse than the first timers who just point their skis straight on the bunny hill and say its the other guys (or kids) fault if they get in the way.

Given the layout of the place, the way they keep it groomed and the snowmaking, looks like a great place for noobs and inter, both skiers and riders. BTW, my niece learned to ski there.

I don’t spend a lot of time on trails that is serviced by the high speed quad, seems crowded all the time. Just do laps on the sunbowl and the north peak lifts, it’s not that bad on weekends. Nothing like Wachusetts on weekends; no way to avoid the crowds; long lift lines and defensive skiing all day.
