Wachusett doesn't get real crowded on weekends. Weeknights are the worst it gets. I've been to Sunapee 4 times in the last 4 years, each on a holiday, and never has it been out-of-control crowded. Once the lines were about 5 minutes, but the other 3, everything except the express quad were ski-ons.

Hope ya' heal successfully haines.
I just had two pins/screws put into small broken bone @base of thumb, in order for a clean heal(let's hope), last Thursday. That's the last time I'll use a hand to help in sitting down while moving a little...in snow...with skis on...and with pole still in hand

Did that have anything to do with the strap? I hate pole straps!

It's relative, been to wachusetts where they form two single and 5-6 multiple lines that extend to the service shack at the summit lift. In this case, it was around 5 min for a single. Last year during feb vacation, my daughter waited about 15-20 min in the multi lines.

In terms of crowds, I've seen skiers get up ended just standing at the edge of the trail because the uphill skiers crash into then b/c they were out of control. Sometimes, skiers doing wedge turns or stem christe off of tenth and conifer which can clog up the trails. The safest place to be is in the mogul feild :-o.

I'm famous for bashing K-mart for having rude skiers/riders, and excessive crowding. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Sunapee is having these issues, given the increased lift capacity and heavy duty marketing. I've always liked the place, but never go out of my way to ski there. I guess that's not likely to change after hearing this.

Funny that Beano read "Cop on 103" and assumed the incident was on the way to Okemo. Having grown up in a Small town with a ski area in it, I always read the road signs a little differently. For example:

Reduced Speed
35MPH
Ahead

I read as:

Small town cop with too much time on his hands, looking for out of state plates ahead.

I have to disagree. I've seen Wachusett very crowded on weekends. Wa has that magical combination that's so important to any business. Location, location, location. Our primary reason for going there is that it's probably an hour and 20 minutes closer than anywhere else. We were there on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago and lift lines were 20+ minutes (we were with some folks so we didn't use the singles lines). And the lodge was insane. Wa does a great job with snowmaking and does a great job maintaining their infrastructure. And I'm glad it's there cause it's definately an easier day trip. But it's been pretty crowded on most of the weekend days we've visited. I've seen Sunapee pretty crowded too but you can usually use some reasonable crowd avoidance tactics at Sunapee.

Simple crowd avoidance tactic at Sunapee is to stay away from the HSQ at peak times.

Even with crowds, I've been fortunate enough to have at most about a 10 minute wait at Sunapee.

The Bowl quad is slow, but at least most of the crowds are on the frontside. Also, the slightly steep trails are all under the triple by the older base lodeg...

I've only been to Sunapee twice -- both times on a weekday -- and I have to say, it couldn't have been more pleasant. No crowds, no bad behavior, no lift lines. And I liked the area, too.

Then again, I NEVER ski anywhere on a weekend.

Just my two cents.
