If it starts out in the lower 20's I go with red.

If it is near 30 I go with yellow. I think the yellow comes off if it is really scratchy in the am.

With a little green wax it does not matter

I use yellow. My theory being the snow spends more time being mushy and warm...than cold and frozen.

If your using temp specific, miss to the warm side. Otherwise just grab some universal and don't worry about it.

what i have found to be the best is hot wax with a warm wax. scrape buff. then rub on some all temp and buff. the all temp comes off just ass its getting warm. the bigest problem is dirt and pollen in the spring. you sometimes have to do a quick scrape mid day to get the gunk off

In my opinion, unless you are racing, the biggest issue is dirt and gunk.

A softer wax (for warmer conditions) gunks up with dirt too easily - I would use something harder to seal the base better and try to keep the dirt out.

If I'm really motivated (and have the time), after skiing I iron in a layer of soft wax and scrape it while it is still warm - this lifts the dirt out of the base. I then brush out the base and iron in a layer of harder wax so I'm ready for next time.
