I’m sorry Deadhead, but you can never be a member of the CLITS. It’s kinda like how the mob works, you can’t be a made man unless you’re from Sicily. In the CLITS you have to be from Connecticut. You can ski with them and go to AZ gatherings, but you can never have any real decision making power.

Just so you know, obviously Greg is the head of the family. His 2 top guys are:

Bvibert does the dirty work and he is kinda like a big pussy. (Don't hurt me I'm only kidding)

2knees is Greg’s trusted advisor (consolarie) he has real power.

yeah even though my folks spent ten years living where Bvibert grew up and said town is where the weekly biking sausage fest is that I have to read TR after TR after TR after TR after TR; :puke:

I probably can't get in wit da CLITS due to that association alone.....even if I mercifully let Greg the fearless leader beat me at a bump comp

I’d like to share more of my thoughts on this topic, but I need to get to Misc. and see if Severine got her kids to bed yet. I really hope so, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if one of those little rascals is givin mom a hard time.
Didn't even catch this until now. Looks like nobody was exempt from the ball busting this morning.

But to answer, they're both wide awake right now and beating each other up. The pediatrician says that's normal. ;)

This thread is funny, I'm glad I took the time to read it.......

Anyway Mad River is real fun on the weekday with a good base and soft snow. I could never have a pass there exclusively because it's too inconsistent, but a Mad Card seems like a good idea. Don't ever remeber going on the weekend but I'm all set with a forty minute wait.

I kind of like low-key ski areas so Mad River is a nice place to get away from the the rest of the Vermont "resorts". The place is so real-no fake town,no forced fake vibe, and a suprisingly great learning area.

I probably don't qualify but I live on the Connecticut border in Mass. & work in CT as well. I've gone on many of the legendary AZ ski outings with the CLITS & been in their videos. I was also a participant in the inaugural Sundown bump contest last season.

Do I get to call myself a member of the CLITS? I know I'll never be in the inner sanctum listed in HPD's post above but do I merit at least an honorary membership in the CLITS? Whatever.

Mad, you need to live in Connecticut and have bump skis to be a made man in the CLITS. I've done alot of research for the book I'm writing about them and I know what I'm talking about.

I know you may be disappointed, but you might be better off. Once you're in you can never get out.

If I were to ever meet Greg and his wife was around, I wonder what she would think if I said, "Finally, I've been waiting forever to meet the Godfather of the CLITS, you've influenced so many with your cunning *cough*lingus*cough* ways"

You're probably right HPD. They bought bump skis, I bought powder skis. I'll take powder over bumps any day although I do like bumps also.

I'm not disappointed at all. I was just curious what the specific criteria was. Now I know. I can still hang with the CLITS, have lots of fun skiing but not have the burden of carrying the CLITS mantle.

Oh, she knows, she stays behind a curtain of secrecy, but many believe she is the real power in the family. When she wants something done it gets done.

That was a funny take deadhead, but tread carefully.

I think that's a healthy attitude.

You can call yourself a Mass-Clit. Kinda like a misfit, but not...

That's usually how it works, right?

From the Valley Distorter...

Mad River Glen... Mow it if you can.

Mon-Fri 8/11-8/22

$8.50 and a ski pass.

And as for Sugarbush, Don't know why anyone would want to bother.

Skiing sucks there.

Are snowborders still banned there?
Do they still basically have no snowmaking?
Do you have to stand in line for up to an hour on Saturdays to ride a slow single chair?

Most ski areas take their lumps here in AZ land, but never this place.
Mr. Drifter...........would you change any of those things? Yeah, you asked the question to spark a discussion, but would you change any of it?

These are things that anyone who has skied the place loves to hate. Society is supposed to hate descrimination. Skiers are supposed to hate a lack of snowmaking and long lift lines. But I think most skiers at MRG wouldn't want to change any of it. Screw the nostaligia thing with no snowboards and an old single. It's ski conditions that count, and those things add up to improved ski conditions. No snowboarders scraping their boards sideways down the hill = better ski conditions and better lines. Lest you think I'm an anti snowboard guy, I'm not. I love to see someone on a board actually carve their way down a mountain. The single limits uphill capacity, which limits downhill traffic, which equals better ski conditions. On the snowmaking thing, that is a bit of a double edged sword. I think most would agree that natural snow skis better than man made, but it doesn't last as long and without snowmaking you are at the whim of Mom Nature. That is a tougher call, but money talks and bull!@#$ walks, and I doubt there is any way the coop is ever going to afford to install snowmaking all over the mountain even if someone make a reasonable argument why they should. So, accept the good with the bad and enjoy the great natural snow conditions when they exist, which is a good percentage of time at the place.

Sure, I suppose I'm being co-captain obvious with all of this, but it seemed worth saying since you started the thread.

So, would you change any of those? I wouldn't. All those factors that should get MRG some lumps actually make it one of the more unique and enjoyable mountains in the east.

On the comments a few have made about conditions being great "every time I've been there"...........well, that isn't such a hard thing to say when you only ski there a few times and you pick your spots ;).

You know SKidds, He's right. MRG is really bad. Don't ski there. I wouldn't recommend it at all. You'll just have a really bad time. There are much better places to go to. The lift ticket line is friggin long. You have to ride these really slow lifts and wait for all those annoyingly friendly people to load you. For cryin' out loud, you can't get a latte. Their policy of woods skiing is simply irresponsible. Their grooming of Stark Mt. is simply preposterous. To top it all off, they don't even sell Bogner. With no valet parking, I can't imagine anyone wanting to spend a day there.

I’d get rid of the single chair and I’d allow snowboarders. Both strike me as backwards thinking.

I did start it cause it was real slow last summer, based on the way June has been I think it’s going to be worse this summer.

These sarcastic “Don’t anyone go there :wink::wink::wink:” type responses are painful to read in their obviousness. It's been done to death. Your reponses are usually better then that bill.

Backwards how? Please explain.

Snowboarders are as main stream as it gets now; banning them is lame and thinking from the 70’s.

Well back in the day at Hunter I remember standing in line for close to an hour to get up the A lift which was a double chair on Saturdays. I hate standing in line. The lift system at Smuggs for instance is the only thing bad about the place. Obviously a single has half the capacity as that.

I know the quality v. quantity thing is some people’s take and the nostalgia take is played a lot too. To each their own, but you asked what I thought so there you are.
