Seeing 2-3'+ roll into NE the weekend before XMas only to have the entire region nailed by rain followed by cold. Looks like a change up coming into play following the new year.

We had a holiday vacationing family with skis load up into one of the neighboring rental condo units in our building Wednesday night. I couldn't help but feel sorry for them. Tis the disadvantage of booking ahead. I know it is a necessary evil for some.

For myself, I think I'll take this long weekend off from skiing. Got some powder on Wednesday and that will be more than enough for the holiday weekend. We'll be back in business in a week it looks like. Just another wonderful holiday weekend of New England's fickle weather.

Alot of potential revenue is going to be washed away...blame it on the rain..Due to the upcoming weather I doubt I'll be going to Vermont New Years as I had hoped..it's supposed to hit 60 degrees all over Northern New England with an inch of rain...ahhhhhhh....so I'll just enjoy the spring conditions here in PA..

Mother Nature can be a bitch....

We are staying at Attitash for 5 days and feeling the pain. 12/24 at Bretton Woods was very good but 25th was horrible at Attitash. There was very little my daughter could ski conformably and even my son was done by noon so spend the afternoon in pool.

26th was much better than expected that they manage to break through the ice layer and it was in a great shape in the morning so we stayed at Bear Peak. It was death cookies all over by the afternoon, but it was still much better than the day before. My daughter was trying hard, and she got pretty good at side sliding down the steep, and making small turns on the better part of the trail, planting poles reaching down, but still, it was work rather than fun for her the whole day.

Next two days are not looking too promising either. Yes, it is a risk we have to take that we have only two set period when we can do multi day skiing vacation and it have to be booked way ahead in advance.

+++++++++Vibes to you all++++++++++++

I swear I always got so pissed when this happened and it always seemed to happen before big weeks. It never seems fair that the weather can so quickly take away what it gives. This happened maybe six or seven years ago too, over three feet of absolute blower 2 weeks before x-mas and a massive warm rain right before the holiday week.

It will come and when it does it will be even sweeter.

Sh*t Happens. You have to take the good with the bad. The same family that booked a condo this week and got NCP and icy condtions could luck out in February with a major dumpage. For me this weather gives me time to exchange some holiday gifts and sort out some loose ends before heading north to the mountain for the week. Just remember even when the weather is warm the beer is cold.

selfishly, its almost a good thing. I've been way behind on stuff around here and at work. Had it remained nice, i'd be battling to get up north this week, which would've created serious friction. Now, i'll just get my stuff done and maybe hit sundown on monday afternoon in the remaining warmth. although, i'm getting to the point where i need something meatier then sundown.

Hopefully, the big metro snows kept skiing on the brain enough that the resorts can still pull off a decent Christmas week. As for me, I'll be ripping spring bumps all week so I'm okay with it. Kinda have to be...

It sucks. Unfortunately I was tied up with work and had my 1st day on the mountain yesterday here at Jay. It was good to get out, but skiing top to bottom on groomers over and over again got old after 8 or so runs. Ducked into the woods, devastation in there. Hard to imagine the great snow people skied Sun-Weds is killed so easily. Typical xmas week bs. I am up here until the 4th, if things don't change a bit, may head back to the cape and get some chores done. then come back up for the weekends.

I didn't ski X-mas but it was some nice corn snow yesterday (12/26) at HV in Jersey. who knows what it will be like the next couple of days but that's part of skiing the East.

My family skied yesterday .

It was fine, really nice condition, all trails open fully covered and had 4-5 in of fresh that they corded up for all the holiday traffic .

Today its raining and will continue thru Sunday evening. We'll lose trail count but hopefully by midweek things will improve , I Feel badly for those who are in rentals , unfortunately weather is like a roll of the dice this time of year -- i sure hope THIS is our January thaw

It's a shame the hills don't discount lift tix for crappy weather. Holiday/Weekend pricing kept me away in addition to the weather. If they had offered a deal I'da made a daytrip or 2. I thought this December mighta been a little different weatherwise in MASH, but no, same ol shat. Record breaking warm day on deck for Sunday....:(

It really is too bad because of how good of a start we've had. I haven't skied since the sunday b 4 xmas and have no plans to until we get some more snow. Like others have said I feel for the groups who have trips planned, but honestly there's more to it than just good conditions.

I'm back from Blue mountain..crowds were minimal for a Holiday but the fog rolled in hard around 10AM..fog is a bigtime snoweater. On the drive up..seeing a Snowman with it's head on the ground a few feet away was sad...Hopefully winter returns with a Vengence on Monday...

times two..Belleayre used to give a voucher for another day if it rained more than a certain amount of time during the hours of lift operation. Paying $50 to ski in the rain isn't bad if you know your next day is free..I'm a marketing guy though..anyway the ski areas can get people to the mountain is good with me. As much as I enjoyed the empty slopes this morning..I want the ski areas to do well..

Blue mountain lost Christmas eve, was closed Christmas day, yesterday was emptier than a normal Holiday and so was today..tomorrow is going to be 60+ degrees..skiing has been erased from fairweather skiers minds..what a difference a week makes..

Just noticing this now but Jay's home page had a "buy Saturday, get Sunday free" offer today.

Too bad it apparently won't get below freezing tonight, could've been a decent "spring" skiing day tomorrow.

Don't you want it to stay above freezing for spring skiing?

no..below freezing so the snow sets up then gradually softens as the temperatures rise..fast snow but still soft..aka..hero snow...

if it stays well above freezing all night..the snow gets rotten and manky..still fun..I'll be skiing Blue tomorrow morning for sure..maybe just 3 hours though..
