Many of the ski areas have a strict return policy. I think some might not accept any back at all (not sure). Most others only accept 20% in return. It has nothing to do with what the policy of your club is unless of course their policy is not to accept any back. It is the ski areas that won't take them in return or only a limited amount. I kind of remember my club listing the percentage that each area will accept back last year on their order form.

edit: For example if your club ordered 100 vouchers & at the end of the year members returned 40 of those vouchers areas that accept only 20% back will only take 20 of them back. Someone is going to eat the other 20 vouchers the ski area won't take back. I had to eat a couple of Sugarbush vouchers several years back.

Moral of story only order what you are going to use & don't count on being able to return any.

I agree with you if that was the case. The EPSC doesn't actually give you a voucher for next year, they give you a credit, for you to use to purchase tickets for next year. Not sure what goes on in the background.

I'm sure EPSC is not going to eat the cost of vouchers they can't return. Maybe you've just been lucky so far & haven't encountered a problem. I'm just trying to explain to you how it works.

Depends on if I do or don't go West for a week

If I stay in the East, then I'll usually get my average daily costs down to $20-$25. If I go West for a week, it usually ends up getting kicked up to the $30 range come seasons end

At the risk of being anal, a per-day isn't the only measure of value. We think along "per day" lines because that is how we are used to purchasing our tickets.

But who got the better value? A person who paid $400 to ski 2.5 hours on each of 10 days, or a person who paid $500 to ski 6 hours on each of 7 days? The former paid $16 per hour of skiing whereas the latter paid $11.90 per hour.

Well I would take the dollar cost average over the days vs the hours. The fact that one decides to ski for 2 hours when they could have skied 6 will not impact dollar cost average since it is measured on lift tickets that are based on day units of measure.

If you want to get that far into it - should smaller/local hills be used since they do not stack up to the larger mountains? I think not, the point is you are out skiing period. However, to each their own and how they want to relate their $'s spent.

I have put things into a spread sheet already and at this time based on the projected days we plan to ski I am looking at $11.06 per visit per person and if I would skip the VT Ski 3 Pass then it could be around $9.80 and we plan on skiing about 50 days which is made largely possible due to having a season pass for the first time ever.

Listed below are the planned destinations for 2014-2015

Cannon (Season Pass)
Jay Peak
Sunday River
Black Mt of ME
Pats Peak
Sugarbush
Bretton Woods
Ragged
Stowe
Magic Mountain
Saddleback Mountain
Okemo
Black Mountain
BoltonValley
Killington
Gunstock
Waterville

I doubt it was inadvertent. With Satan's Stairway now open, there is no way they are going to be giving out any discounts.

True - but will all that money he is saving elsewhere, can he really afford not to splurge on a couple of days in central Connecticut ski country?

I am basing this off of last years $ #'s, as they were pretty equal to previous years, and as long as weather cooperates, will be again this year.

I have a free season pass.

$20 to ski Stratton, 3 trips = $60
Made 2 trips to Mt. Snow. One was $18, and the other was $20 I think. = $38
I join a 8 week race league, that is $90.
Race training days. $15 including a lift ticket. = $15

Money spent to ski = $203
I skied 105 days last year, so $1.93 avg. per day.....

I recieved comp tickets last year from Killington, Jiminy Peak, Hunter, Bromley, The Canyons, Snowbird, Powder Mtn, Park City, and Bosquet.

How exactly did you ski 105 days for $203 last season? Even more intriguing, how do you have the time to ski 105 days in a season....I need to move into a condo ASAP...

My cost per lift ticket comes to $12.50 each. That doesn't seem so expensive.
(Bought 2014/2015 seasons pass at Greek Peak at early discounted price of $399 and plan on using it 32 times).
Don't forget to factor in the gas money you give me to get your lazy ass to the hill and back. It cost me about the same to make a round trip to Greek, more with your fat ass in my passenger seat, and those Volant lead weights on top, I bet your Dynastars are lighter. That's as close as I come to lifting weights, hoisting those bricks onto my roof rack.
