Stowe
Wilcat
Burke

Only one time at each of these. Wildcat and Burke I liked alot. Stowe was very early season and nothing was open. I'd like to get back to Burke before they develop it all up. Say what you will about that, I ski the mountains to be outdoors, not to be surrounded and crowded or wined and dined. I'm a Mad River Glen skier what can I say.

Never been to Magic but can't wait to ski there some time in a good winter.

The list of areas I've only been to once is short, and the one's I'd like to return to is shorter.

Wilderness, Whiteface, Dartmouth and Mount Abrahms (in the East).

West: Grand Targhee, Ski Apache and Solitude.

Le Massif

We been to Le Massif once and would love to go back to. The only reason we haven't been back is the the teens prefer Tremblant at night. But my better half and I will be back to Le Massif. Great snow, great views, good food.

Orford
Killington
Bolton Valley (was there once, but it was so long ago I don't remember it)
Suicide 6 ( I was there with beginners and really didn't explore)
Black Mt. NH (last time there was blizzard of '78)
Wildcat (last time there was blizzard of '78)

I'd really like to try someplace outside of New England and the Quebec Province this year as well.

Sugarbush one time on a Friday with snow falling all day. All superquads and no crowds. What an awesome day!!!!! What an awesome mountain!!!!
Sugarbush doesn't have all quads. There are 2 from the base at Lincoln and 2 at Mt Ellen (1 from the base and 1 from where Slidebrook connects).

In the east:

Black Mtn. (NH) and Wildcat. Stayed overnight at my ski club’s lodge a few years ago prior to a week-long trip to Sunday River. Got up early and drove to Black (had won a freebie pass at a raffle and it was ¾ of the way to S.R. anyhow). This was at the tail end of a thaw/rain cycle and they had lost a lot of terrain. But what I saw from the summit lift looked really interesting. I want to check this place out when it’s fully open with better conditions.

I got bored with what little was open, so after lunch I drove up NH16 to Wildcat and skied there for the afternoon. Better conditions, better coverage, got a lot of runs in and had a blast. To top it off, this was a Sunday afternoon $20 lift ticket. 2 mountains, 1 day, 20 bucks -- not too bad!

Only problem: living by the Jersey shore, these areas are not easy to get to and even from my club’s lodge in central VT, it’s at least a 3 to 3½ hr drive.

Out west:

Every place I’ve ever skied.

of the places I;ve been to only once and want to go back if i ever get a chance-

Stowe-it;s just seems too far away for me given other alternatives and I can;t ever seem to convince my friends to make the trek and pay the extra money. i can;t seem to find any inexpensive lodging and lift packages either. my only trip there, I got about 8-10 measly hours on the mountain total for the weekend because the weather was iffy and my friends were lame. I should have did the night skiing....

Jackson Hole-another place I can;t seem to convince my friends to go to when stuff like SLC are closer and more convenient. I had 4 glorious days out there in 1998 and keep telling myself I have to go back....

This past season-Alta and Brighton. I think I barely broke the surface of what was available. I got about 7 hours of probably the best powder day ever in my life at Alta on an April day. it was almost too much snow. only got about 3 1/2 hours at Brighton and then it was off to the airport. I have got to go back. we'll see.....

IMHO....SLC doesnt have a mtn that competes with Jackson Hole....Jackson Hole is AWESOME...not saying SLC isnt great in its own right, just don't think its in the same class as JH...

i agree. I am a fan of mountains that have more terrrain than you can ski in a day. i don;t want to get bored in a few hours so my favorite mountains are Whistler/Blackcomb, Vail, JH, Sugarloaf and Killington. the SLC mountains are all smaller but they they do get points for variety.

the thing that SLC has over JH is that it;s only 45 minutes away from the airport as opposed to 2 hours for JH. also, it seems like I can;t get a cheap direct flight to JH like I can with SLC. those guys in Utah have got it right as far as as promoting their skiing.

another couple of places I skied at for the 1st time this past season-Vail, Beaver Creek and Copper Mountain. they were awesome and I want to go back.

Ok I dont know where you flew into, but you can see the whole entire mtn of Jackson Hole from the airport, and it only took about 20 minutes to get there...I fly from Newark through Chicago and right into Jackson Hole airport..I think it is an american airlines hub??

Copper rocks I have a buddy that lives literally right in Summit County in Dillon so he's only about 20 min MAX from Copper, VAILS BIG...

You should hit up ABasin next time yer in the Summit Cty area...

Oh FYI...im a Kmart regular... ;-)

Teton Village is 12 MILES from the airport...MAX TRAVEL time with traffic...30 minutes...like I said if you fly into Jackson Hole airport...you can see the whole mountain across the runway...

thanks for the info! you can tell that in this 90 degree heat and humidity, I wish I was skiing....

i got to do some more research. maybe things have changed since i was last out there. I mean the last time i was out there, they didn;t even have on the mountain lodging so I stayed in the town of Jackson. I flew from Newark to Denver to someplace else and caught a van that took 2 hours to get to Jackson. not having the direct flight is a bit of a killer though because travel burns an entire day. also, not alot of choices for flights.

my trip to SLC was pretty efficient-we caught the early morning flight and were skiing the same day by 12:00 MST. then on the day back, skied till 1:00pm and caught the 3:45 out of SLC. jetblue has flights as low as 69-99$ each way! We caught Delta for $329 RT.

No doubt getting TO SLC is easier flight wise since very few fly direct to Jackson Hole, but American Airlines flies from Chicago directly to jackson Hole so all you have to do is get the chicago...it does "waste" a day, but I usually dont ski on the travel day anyway...if last time you were there there wasnt lodging at Jackson Hole you havent been in a while eh? Still the airport didn't change, and even staying IN the town of Jackson it couldnt have been more than a 25 min bus ride to the mtn..I say spend the extra bucks and stay in Teton Village, sure you might have to cab it into town a night or 2 for "tourist" stuff, but the Mangy Mosse is right there and thats plenty for me...hey when you go take the day trip to Grand Targhee...talk about POWDER....you can do a "tour" sign up in the same building as Mangy Moose is in...I think it was like $70 for the bus ride (about 2 hrs) and the lift ticket...deal can't be beat and WELL worth it..

Hmm...I must not have flown into the closest airport. i'll check it out.

funny thing about the bus from Jackson to JH. I think it stopped running at 4:30pm so it limited what I could do on the mountain.

Whoa...4:30? thats big time lame...cant even have an apres ski beer in the Moose if you ski the whole day....that stinks...

Yeah man...fly DIRECT into Jackson Hole Airport..its a tiny 2 terminal joint....maybe 3...but its like a big house..Ha...again literally 12 miles outside of Teton village which is the base of Jackson Hole...I know since i've last been there (4 years ago) there has been tremendous expansion of the Teton Village, so there is likely a LOT more to do now..also...I know for sure there is a Hostel in the town of Jackson, gets filled pretty quick but I think its under $40 a night...probably meet some cool people in the process too?? Worth a thought..

JH needs to expand that airport!

another place I have only been to once but want to go back-Whiteface. it fails into that category of being a tad too far considering the other options available. I only got to go there once after a spring like day/freeze cycle and the conditions were glare ice and the other half of the terrain was closed. However, the terrain did look promising. i found it difficult to find any lift and lodging packages in the area.

Stowe: Only skied there once so far, always on the look out for deals.
Pico: Only skied there once during a College race, but it was a powder day and I got some free runs ;)
Saddleback: Definitely planning on hitting this place on a yearly basis despite the drive.
Loaf: It has been a while. It would be hard to pass by Saddleback, but I would like to get back there.

skied 3 days 2 marches ago at le massif, it was about a 14 hour drive but it was definatly worth it, got about a foot of fresh snow that stuck around for a while and rode right on to the lift each time down. i can only imagine what that mountain used to be like
