I would say Stratton as well, except I seem to keep getting free tickets for them every year. Makes it tough to stick to your guns about it.

"Every time I think I'm out, Jerry -- they pull me back in!"

Had a freebie (or maybe two, actually) this year plus a couple steep discount vouchers. That and it's 20 minutes from my club lodge. I got no self-respect.

Kramer: Now what does the little man inside you say? See you gotta listen to the little man.
George: My little man doesn’t know.
Kramer: The little man knows all.
George: My little man’s an idiot.

I forgot to mention Woodbury. Woodbury may only be a 15 minute drive from my house, but there really is only one wide trail there and I've skiied on bunny hills longer than that trail. It embarrasses me that a shrimp of a ski area opens before Killington.

Why am I not surprised to see Mountain Creek mentioned over and over again as NEVER AGAIN? ;)

I gave it more than one chance. But each time, it's worse than the one before! The last really bad experience was MIDWEEK, it took 90 minute to just get a freaking lift ticket!!! What more do I need?

There're other mountain I prefer NOT to visit. Catamount is one of such. I've had TWO lousy days there. And I just don't see what's there FOR ME.

There're also others I have such low opinion I won't pay to visit. Stratton being one of such. But like others here, I keep getting their free ticket. So I use them. For a freebe, I must say it has enough redeeming values. (I wouldn't even go to Mountain Creek for free though).

Mt. Snow, Killington, Okemo are all those I don't "prefer". And absolutely not paying full price tickets. But under the right condition say, midweek after a dump, especially if I can score a deal, I can make myself happy in any of them.

So in short, Mountain Creek and Catamount are the two absolute NEVER.

Wisp in Maryland and Snowshoe in WV are on my never ever list. Not because I don't think I'd have a good time skiing there as these days I can have a good time skiing just about anywhere. I had the most horrific employment experiences at those resorts that I would NEVER give them a dime of my money. You'd seriously have to pay me to ski there; it was that awful working for those two employers.

Did Disneyland (AKA Intrawest) own Snowshoe when you worked there?

yes...the most brutal 13 months of my life. It's hard enough living in a place so desolate with the CRAPPIEST weather on earth. When your employer basically makes you work 80 hours a week for very little money it's downright unbearable.

It's pretty amazing how far MC has fallen even for the park rats who used to defend the place with beatings.

The saving grace for MC for us was always the race venue...one of the better GS courses, with a nice breakover just out of the rotted floor start house dropped you into a long, wide headwall, followed by a dogleg left for a tuck finish. And they would set a great slalom run (50+ gates) down the narrow slope to skiers left of the GS course.

The coaches were great and they produced some really good USSA kids. And I raced ASRA there for years...

But the new owners decided that racing wasn't such a good idea and took away one of the best venues in the region. Oh, well.

We'll never ski MC again...

MC is in a location where there's no competition. So they can be as bad as they can and still there'll be clueless first time locals from the area to fill in the void.

With that kind of "advantage", why should they bother making it "better"?

There're a lot of "local" hills around here that have captive audience. At least they don't have the "attitude" of MC. So they try their best to make a good experience out of limited natural resources. And I'd rather patronize those area instead.

Vail, I really did not like the vibe there. In a lifetime of skiing I do not think I have had my skis stepped on more times in a lift line as my one day there. On one trail a lady fell and her ski was up hill from her. I stopped on this wide trail to grab the ski and a guy yells at me that "this is not the best place to stop". Now it is not like I had stopped short right in from of him I had been stopped for a bit and was picking the ski up. The sad thing is I saw her when I got off the lift walking up the slope to get her ski and no one helped her until I got there. This happend about halfway down the run.

The back bowls were probably the best part of the resort but you can get the same thing at A-Basin. It was just something about Vail I didn't like.

I feel the same way about Vail, big, open great and diverse ski resort that turns out to be a stressful experience in the end. I like ski areas more than ski resorts out here but can't say I'll never go to Vail, Breck ect.....

Bristol due to there bogus snow reporting. We went there based on there report of 12" of new snow in the last 24 hrs with 6' over night. But they failed to mention that it was freezing rain after the snow which put an ice crust on everything. Made one run and tried to get a refund with no luck. Couldn't even get 50% refunded.

never going back

i probally spend more time a the creek than anyone on here and i have to say this last season was fun. i had somewhere between 65 and 70 days on the hill. you need to know how to use the mountain.
1.as a day skier mountain it doesn't work. you need to have a pass. hell it was only 299 last year.
2. avoid it durring the day go at night. we never had a lift line at night.
3. there are choke points you have to deal with. so deal. it is what it is.
4. weekends don't go thats what traveling is for got to the cats or vt.
5. i am happy to get the amount of time i do on the snow. it keeps me in form.

you use the resources availible to you the best possible way you can. there is no use in geting upset about it. you will be happier and live a longer life.

by they way i im no way saying the place is great but for what it is. it gets the job done.

I like this answer...you get it.

I love to ski powder and would climb at Mt. Washington every weekend if I could.

The reality is I live in Dutchess County NY...I ski at Hunter and love it and would not consider another home mountain.

That does not mean I think Hunter is the best place in the world to ski...only an idiot would think that.

But as my home hill there is nothing better.

One type of skier I dislike is a ski-snob...there are lots of people who live here in PA who never even ski in PA..They only ski in VT and out west..If I totally wrote off PA, my annual ski days would drop from 100 to 30-40..Yes skiing Blue mountain can be easy and crowded but it's alot better than sitting at home or driving 7 hours..plus the icy Pocono snow makes for mad steezy speed..

Mountain Creek. Nothing redeeming about the place (and a bunch of negatives), and there are other, better ski areas the same distance from me.

I wasn't going to rehash, but what the hell.

Killington.

It's funny, but in the process of trying to be cool and 'exclusive higher end resort', they end up pushing away families.

I'm reminded of the uber sport families that are stereotyped on typical 80's movies. "We're not like THAT class of people, they'll never make it.."

H'mm seems like NEVER is a LOOOOOONG time and as one's abilities change ( accidents , age, disabilitiy etc) what formerly looked like a "no thanks" could in fact be right on target ----- so I'd NEVER say NEVER peronally

I guess IMHO - No such thing as a Bad skiing experience --Just SOME better than Others :D

i would like to try blue this winter but its just a little far from either of my houses. At MC i leave the city at 4 ride till close the go sleep at my lake house 15 min away then go to work at ten maybe take few fast morninng runs. it would be way to hard to do that going to PA 3 to 4 times a week but i not the average rider.
