I just think it's possibly to carve much shorter linked turns. When I think carve, I think edges set without skidding. Definititions vary
Chase is right...its a bit of semantics, but when you're on that steep run and you think you're carving there's probably more skidding going on than you recognize...unless you're on a ski with a 12meter radius or you're going 50mph and looking like Bode, you're skidding to some extent. I can relate to the need to work on my skid...after years of mastering the carve its tough to let those edges slide...but trying to arc 'em in the trees just ain't good for your dental work. Skidding is an important tool in the expert skier's bag of tricks...the Scot Schmidt "smear turn" is a fancy name for a high speed skid.
