holy crap I have a picture of NHPH in my room... sweet
It was a pretty popular poster. If you look close austin you will see my friend Paul in front wearing his purple shell(I remind you it was 1987 so it was "IN") with his skis over his right shoulder, I am in the middle, and Pauls brother-in-law Ray, who was just a spectator, is in the back carrying paul's poles.
In back of Ray you can see a rock to the left of the dude in red. On top of that rock is my red Jansport pack(remember,1987).
As you can see from the poster it was a pretty spectacular day!

Well technically the Cog "owns the land" they operate on. Which is why they can bring people to the summit. The problem for the Cog is that "land" is just a strip about 40 yards wide that runs the length of the track. So patrons could go up, but the USFS said they couldnt leave the Cog property  .
I would think during these times of sky high liability insurance, it would be financially impossible to operate such a bussiness. At least I hope so.
When I become a billionare I'm buying that freakin Cog, dismantling every last piece of creasote covered track and letting the mountain recliam the huge scar that runs along the Ammonusic Ravine. Then I'll start a foundation to clean up Spaulding Pond of all the soot thats been deposited in this once pristine gem.
Crap! I diddnt mean to get going on my Cog rant again.
Ironically I bought the poster at the Cog Gift Shop after hiking the Ammonusic Ravine trail to MW then down the Jewel trail
