Andy you already know that Killington is my home mountain. After all, SkiDork and I do own a condo there so we are also VT taxpayers. We will ski at Stratton one day this year since we have free tickets. Might arrange to meet up with some friends who have a house there and are season pass holders. Don't know yet if we will visit any other mountains since I am currently unemployed and the finances might be a little tight when ski season is in full bloom. Might visit DMC at Hunter and do a day trip to Plattekill if there is a lot of snow.

Gore, Now that I am finally back in NY

Just picked up my season pass 2 days ago, First time to the mountain in about 10 years. No more old red gondolas. Other than that it looks like not much has changed.

Not true Bill, it's changed alot and all for the better. When they have the snow depth they have some of the best tree skiing in the Northeast.

it was cannon and wildcat for a long time but with the all4one last year it quickly changed to kmart and will remain kmart as long as the pass is cheap

Yeah, I try to get up to Whiteface a few times a year. My parents have a house up near Saranac. Last few years, though, snow quality at Gore has been better (more natural snow).

Yeah, Bill, you're in for a surprise. New Trails, New Lifts, New Steeps, New Trees, New Cruisers. Gore today is 10 times better than it was 10 years ago.

A lot has changed since then, actually. The new Gondola goes up to a new peak, with a handful of new trails, and a new triple chair from a little below the Straightbrook area up to the top of that peak. They have various new (in the past 10 years) trails in the Straightbrook area as well - you might have been around for Rumor, but Lies, Double Barrel (Straightbrook and old gondola lift lines), and other glades have been opened up since.

Yeah I am looking forward to getting back up there. Yeah there were less trails last time I went, I think hullabaloo was a double black also. I do still remember how cold it got when the wind was blowing when you got to the top of that triple over showcase. The lodge looked damn near the same, it brought back some memories. They said they plan on opening Nov 18th, I cant wait

...and I'm about 400 yards down the driveway.

I've had a season pass at Kmart since 1981 and I've owned a condo there since 1993.

Aside from knocking down a wall in the lodge turning two rooms into one, I don't think they've done anything in that regard. There was supposed to be a new lodge on top of Bear Mountain, but that hasn't happened yet.. I'm not sure if it's still in the plans. Triple is as cold as ever, just used far less with the new gondola. I think despite Hullabaloo's single diamond rating on the trail map it is still a double black when you look at the sign by the trail, but I could be remembering wrong (you are certainly right that it was considering a double black in the past). A lot of areas seem to every once in a while change ratings of trails.

Favorite run(s)?
Wild Turkey
Jerico
White Tail
Rip Tide

And when there is enough snow John Hancock
Cool cool. Yeah Turkey is probably their best run. I found Jericho to be great most of last year. I think they really concentrated on keeping a lot of snow on there. I also really like the Foxes. Have you ever hit Liftline? I've only seen it open once and the conditions looked marginal that day. I didn't get a chance to ski it.

I have only done lift line once myself, and the conditions were not great then either. Most of the time lift line is open you have to come in from the side and that takes a lot of time to get there for a short run. Upper Exhibition is a simular run and it was open a lot this last season, they made a great deal of snow on it. So much so they had to mark off one of the whales because you could hit the Express chair if you went off it. They did make an extra effort to keep Jerico and Whitetail covered. Especially Whitetail since it is one of the better night runs. I hiked around there last month and notice that they have extended Outback in order to eliminate the grading problem at the end. It looks that even boards should be able to ride it without any trouble. Looking forward to to a good winter there.
