When do you think the bulk of the ski areas will open up?

Based on some of the forecasts, it looks like next week will be a good snowmaking week. My guess is that many areas will open up on December 9.

I agree December 9th.

This weather has hurt the bigger places which open early. But it has helped the MRG's and Burkes of the world because they open later. Ergo, if the "earlier" opening dates get pushed back, but the later openers still open as promised, then the smaller places don't look as "bad" when it comes to opening.

That and hopefully we're getting the warmth out of the way for the season so the normal late openers will have a good season overall.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I would just like to say that this forum is awesome. Lots of knowledgeable people that know their stuff when it comes to skiing.

Anyways, I did not want to start a new thread, but Waterville still says as of today that they still are planning on saturday. They have a little daily video thing on the main page of their website. Its bare there and they said they could open on 1 night of snowmaking......how possible is that?? At least the weather next week looks ideal for snowmaking and even some of the real thing:grin:

Welcome Justin! I may be a tad more fussy than the desparate most. I say it takes 10-14 days of blowin' and groomin' before there are adequate conditions to ski when you're starting from scratch.

many mountains can blow, groom, and open at least a single trail (often times more) in two days.

The better question is will more than 50% of the mountains have more than 50% of their terrain open for 12/25?
I say there's no way to tell until 12/24 at 11:59 pm. Winter weather arrives out of nowhere.
