The very first time on skis was at our neighbors house in 1974 after a big storm. The first on-mountain experience was at Powder Ridge, CT in 1979. Three times on the bunny slope and it was off to the top!

Wow, A lot of people on here skiing for the first time in their backyard. I grew up in the wrong neighborhood.

February 1990. I was not quite 12.

The rope tow that ran parallel to the road. I hated skiing and really wanted to quit. Dad convinced to have lunch and give it one more shot after that. I remember the rope tow burning through my gloves. We even have a couple of pictures somewhere.

RIP Temple!

Ski Sawmill, PA, 1988
They say the vertical drop is 515', but the topos show it to be less than 400'.

Royal Mountain, NY in Dec 1963 on wooded skiis, lace up boots and Cubco bindings. A very primitve release binding.
They had a T-bar and a rope tow. Tickets were $4/$2 for the adults/kids and $1 for the rope tow. The season started around X-mas and went into April due to the great NE exposure and narrow trails. I hear they are still going strong.
