Which Ski mag?

I'm thinking about getting a ski-related magazine. What do you subscribe too? I Ski, Skiboard and very occasionaly snowboard, I also go out west once a year (money god willing). All most all of my skiing experience is on-piste (from lack of oppurtunity not from lack of interest).

What should I get?

I subscribe to ski, but I'm not impressed. I'm eager to see some other answers as imo, they pretty much all suck and cater to more of the posh crowds.

Skiing is nice for the pictures.

If you are involved in Nastar or have a seasons pass somewhere you usually wind up with a free subsc to skiing or ski. If you like western big mountain skiing (and a younger crowd) try Powder or Free Skier.

I've had subscriptions to Powder, Skiing, and Ski magazines. Ski is far and away the best magazine in my opinion because they have more content, more variety, and more substance than the other 2. Powder seems to be gear toward either/or the backcountry crowd or higher income people. Skiing is more mainstream, but doesn't have much content. For the money, ski magazine has a wide variety of articles covering a wide variety of subjects. Each issue (generally speaking) has articles on fitness, gear, technique, a resort profile or 2 and a sub-section on East skiing. Each issue has 100 pgs or more and they aren't 90% advertisements like some magazines. I agree with a previous post that says you could answer almost any question with the help of the AZ forums, but I have to admit, I NEED my SKI magazine subscription.

I've had a subscription to Ski for the past several years. A fund raising arm for the Special Olympics sent me something in the mail where I could get a subscription for the same price as I normally would pay, but half of the proceeds goes to benefit the special Olympics.

Hey, as for the Range Rovers and Deer Valley lunches, you KNOW you have to pay the sponsors. I wish it was different, but that's just the way of the world. Like I said, fitness, technique, gear, the East, and hopefully a new technology are the things I look for. I don't really know of any other ski magazines than the 3 I mentioned, so this is my pick of the litter.
Would appreciate it if anyone could turn me on to a better mag.

I subscribe to all 3. Although, this is the first year in about 5 that I've gotten ski. They all leave something to be desired. IMHO, Powder is the best. Ski is definitely pushing the posh crowd in the last few years...not my thing..I'm not really interested in which ski area has the best lattes. Skiing seems to be trying to get the younger, "dirtier" group more towards freestyle. Editorial content is weak and written on a 5th grade level. For me, Powder best grasps the feel of skiing.

Obviously sites like this one are best for ski content however I actually like SKi. In between the articles on winter fashion and "dream homes" there is some good stuff. Although I didn't renew, I'll probably pick up the Top 50 resort guide as I like the resort write ups and they do throw some love this way with their "Ski East" section.

I think of Ski and Skiing as similar to mainstream golf mags. Little real substance. Basically just media for advertising. Most of the articles seem very recycled. I'd say Skiing is targeted more towards a younger party skier (burgers, booze, and babes) and Ski is targeted more toward the family vacation skier. I still peruse them every month.

My favorite magazine is SnowEast. I also get Ski, Skiing and Powder but I like SnowEast the best because of all the local info.

I would but I can't deal with all the pseudo-intellectuals that work there. The arrogance kills me. I once had this snotty guy at checkout try to refuse giving me a teacher's discount because the book was a travel guide and I wouldn't use that in the classroom. WTF does he care???? I told him that I was a European History teacher and was using it to research Irish culture. (I teach U.S. History, btw) He finally gave me the discount. After he handed me the shopping bag he handed me an ad for a teachers discount day they were having in a few weeks. I gave it back to him while walking away saying, "no thanks, I'll be in Ireland.'

I've gotta agree. This is the easiest way to get a take on which one's for you.

I get Ski, Skiing, and Freeskier. All three seem to get worse every year for content, but they always get my head a little closer to the game.

I get mine usually in the trash. Seriously, it's only a matter of time in my world that someone will read their copy of SKI,Powder...whatever and throw it in the trash. As long as it's not gross......I grab it and take it home and check it out. Usually find alot of interesting things. BTW, SKI and SKIING are owned by the same company and they have been for sale for over a year. No takers so far. Any budding publishers out there?

Why are skiing and ski for sale???? Are paid subscriptions down? I have most of the Ski and Skiing magazines from the 90s and they were double as thick as they are now..The internet has to be cutting into it hardcore..

I'd almost pay money to see SRO dumpster diving for skiing magazines. "You know you have a problem when...." :dunce:

I get better information out of Ski Racing, but for some reason I have an extremely long subscription to Skiing. I think I got it when Inside Tracks went under. Now that was a good rag. No advertising.
