Why are skiing and ski for sale???? Are paid subscriptions down? I have most of the Ski and Skiing magazines from the 90s and they were double as thick as they are now..The internet has to be cutting into it hardcore..

because people are just going to Borders, reading them for free and putting it back on the shelf.

I'd almost pay money to see SRO dumpster diving for skiing magazines. "You know you have a problem when...." :dunce:

 The winter is much easier cause in the summer I have to fight off the raccoons and trust me, there's not much space in there. I mean just cause their in there every night doesn't mean they have inherent rights to the goods plus they can't even read.

Hell...in Vermont we call that recycling.

Snow Country was a good magazine. Too bad it stop publishing. I used to get Snowboard Life which was a good adult snowboarding magazine, but it stopped also. Don't like the other snowboard magazines except for the pictures because everything is geared towards teens.

Go to Ebay. You can find all kinds of subscriptions for dirt cheap. I got Ski and Skiing from Ebay for 4 years for $7 each! I got Guitar World magazine for 5 years for $5! I've also gotten Popular Mechanics, 3 bike magazines, 2 Golf magazines, etc... for dirt cheap! Too many subscriptions actually. I get a different magazine arriving just about every few days! LOL!

Oh well, they were so cheap I couldn't resist...

I get SKI and SKIING - subscription rates are pretty cheap and every issue is good for at least one interesting article

Two

#1 choice: I've stayed with SKI magazine the longest, probably going on 30 years now, largely because they support NASTAR and put emphasis on families. I noted a big editorial change in the past two years - certain of the article focus more on the fabric of skiing, which includes a lot of behind-the-scenes scuttlebutt usually found only talking to employees and locals. Yes, It's got a lot of big ads with big prices, but it pays the bills. I tend to glance right past that stuff (or rip it out and recycle it) if need be and head for the content.

I also save the buying guide issues for at least 5 years. That helps when I'm buying non-current equipment(read: cheap) and I can't find any specs or opinions on it. I also use the buying guide as a first cut of what is good. If it's not reviewed, it's probably not worth looking at.

I do tire of their Warren Miller articles although I like the nostalgia articles. Miller was funny at first, but I can only take so much of his reminiscing about sleeping in the parking lot...

#2 Choice - SkiPress - pick it up monthly for FREE at any ski shop. Some very insightful articles. Information is a lot more current than SKI, which goes to bed about 60 days before publication.

#3 Ski Racing - Mostly articles, some really good resort articles. Hard to justify the price if you're not into racing, but a lot of goo reading. Almost no advertising (you pay for it in the higher subscription price.)

Have to agree, Skiing seems to have a very young demographic in mind and partying is the name there. Two hours of skiing, lots of beer, struggling to make the first lift. Not my lifestyle, but it takes all kind.

My $0.02 about declining subscriptions - The net is where more and more people (guess who) are getting their info.
