I always go out west to Snowbird during the month of February. It's that time and I'm looking to book a trip for the first week of March. The weather is the problem has anyone seen an extended forecast for storm pattern change for the west. Looks to me for most of the winter all the storms out west are staying north. I could change the trip to Jackson but I prefer Snowbird/Alta.
Today I did see the weather and the jet stream has moved south bringing storms to Colorado, that could be temporary or could be a good move south for a few weeks.

I am at the 'bird pretty often and the LCC resorts are doing better than others. Don't go to Squaw. They have no snow.

But back to Snowbird they just opened Mineral Basin and it is thin. They have an average of a 67 inch base and most of it came in the last two weeks. So it is getting decent by Utah standards. Yes, we have been getting more snow the last couple weeks and looking ahead we have some small storms every here and there. Avalanche danger is crazy right now.....

Looking ahead...anyone's guess, but I have heard rumbles that the pattern is to stay stormy and make up for lost time.

And Alta has a bit more snow than Snowbird. Jackson has a bit more than these.

Feel free to PM for more info and some pics.

Jackson is way on top if you believe their website. If you can stand the 10 hour travel time, Whistler was having a great early season. Don't know how they're doing now.

I don't know if you've ventured over to the Weather section of the forum but we have forecasts for out west as well. (hope you don't mind the shameless plug) They've been having a tough season too, but the pattern broke for some snow last month. Our west forecaster (and site founder) tracks the patterns out that way if you want to check Snowbird's forecast and long term discussion at the bottom. We have some long-term info for Jackson Hole here as well. Track updates on our Facebook page. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Just got back from Alta. They have decent coverage but many areas are still closed. they picked up about 10 inches while I was there. I stayed 4 days and was pretty happy with it. I timed it right as I got there Friday after they got about 8 inches and the high T opened. I try to get there at the end of storms.

Because of many reasons over the years (kids needs, property ownership, off hill opportunities for some, etc), me and my wife have always booked our out West trip far in advance and in a few weeks it will mark our 7th ski week in Park City always going right around March 1st. We've had some powder weeks, and we've also had some sunny, sometimes almost spring like weeks. Either way has been great in their own right. Plus with the vastness of the areas out there, even if it hasn't snowed in a week or so, you can always find some good, soft chopped up powder, and also if it is warm out, the Northfacing terrain will often stay dry and "chalky" even if its 40 degrees out. Worst case scenario then is you end up your vacation with a snazzy goggle tan ;)
