I have all girls, so I must ask. A wide range of parents call their pre-pubescent sons "bud" or "buddy" out in public. I hear it a lot. What's up with that? Kid has a name, no?

Because it's more politically correct to call them that in public than "hey a$$hole!" or "dipsh&t" ;) :spin:

Two of my good friends who are brothers call each other "Bub" and "Pip." Don't know why.

And what was more or less the sister farm to the one I'm living on now, when it was a working dairy farm, was run by two brothers and one of their sons. The son's nickname was "Tinker," one brother was "Buzz" and the other was "Twitch." And people that know Tinker well call him "Tink." So... Buzz, Twitch and Tink.

I kinda want a cool, monosyllabic, generic nickname. Any ideas?

On a serious note, I was thinking of this as I was driving my kids to their respective schools this AM. I do call my son "buddy" as a nickname very often, no real clue as to when or why it started, just kind of did (maybe too many Budweiser products through my college years or something ). But my daughter, I'll often use "kiddo" when talking to her, once again I don't remember when or why I started.

Bud is PC for "little Bastard"! Seriously, I call my youngest Bud. For me it's a term of affection. "What's up Bud"? or "Hey what's wrong Buddy"? We really need some snow,... soon!

I started calling my nephew bud before he was born...

My Dad used to call me "sport"... I think he nicked it from "The Courtship of Eddies Father" TV show in the 60's...

My dad is now into advance alzheimer's
A couple weeks ago I was talking to him... And he called me "sport" - my mom and I were really taken by that...

I miss my Dad.. Or Pops as I cal him...

I lost my Dad in May. Spend as much time with him as you can now. You won't regret it later. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease!

My son has many nicknames, much like our dogs. Bud is one that he hears a lot from both Mom and Dad. My wife even had a few situations where people in stores thought his name was Bud.
