Just curious as to where you're planning on doing most of your skiing instead. For us, the bottom line is -- draw a ~4-hr drive circle around NYC, and Killington is pretty much the best skiing you can get. That might change this year, but we're at least going to give them a shot. If Mt. Snow lives up to the snowmaking hype we'll do our early season skiing there, but they just don't have enough terrain to keep us occupied every weekend all winter.

If already traveling 4 hours, then presumably you're staying over at least one night. If so, what's another hour to the MRV? This comes from a guy that has no problem doing a 3 hour day trip, so take it for what it's worth...

Yeah, we always go for the whole weekend, and we've definitely thought about extending the drive a little. It's just a lot nicer to get to the mountain around 11pm than after midnight, which is usually about when we roll in after getting everyone out of work and making a quick dinner/grocery stop. While we're willing to do 5-6 hours, we're probably not willing to do it *every* weekend, and we'd rather keep the drive shorter if possible.

We'll see. Most of the changes they've announced so far just don't really affect the weekends-only crowd, which is unfortunately what we are. I would definitely be upset if we owned there, though. We were hoping to buy something up there this year, and now I'm glad we waited.

Same as always

I usually get up there 3-4 days per year, last year six. None of the changes affect me, except the fact there might be fewer people there!
Until February last year they were the best game in town (from there south at least, I can't report on northward). They made the best out of that early season disaster last year! Had some quality days there before the V-day blizzard! They still have snowmaking capacity and elevation!
Now when they rip down Coops next year - I may reconsider and not go back........................................

I chose no seeing how it is no longer free for me but will go if my kids (mine or my team) has a race as it would still be free.

I chose "Yes, same as always" because I rarely if ever ski there, and will likely continue to not include Killington on my list of possibilities..

Same here. Not that I have anything against k-mart, just don't seem to get there. I've skied there once in the last 4 years (on a free ticket).

I skied there 2 days last December. Definitely won't be skiing there this year since I don't have a pass there. To be honest I don't really care.

I will be at K this year more then ever before. Reason being I will have a condo this year. If I don't like what I see this year with powdr..., then I will move on but this year I will give them a good look. I will also spend more time at pico and the MRV.

I am going to spread it around a lot more this season and hit a lot of the resort my A41 pass kept me away from.

I also plan to invest the $1400 I put into a Killington House and pass into a few more Western trips. I have some frequent flyer miles to cash in and plan on flying out to ski alot more than I have ever done in the past.

Also will be skiing at Hunter a lot more this year. Last season was the 1st in a long time that I didnt even ski there once. This year I will probably get a bunch more days in there.

Would love to do MRV but it is just too far for me for an every week thing. Killington was is a 4 hour 45 minute drive for me and since I am a Manhatanite (and don't have a car) a lot of time I was taking Amtrak up to Rutland. So MRV is just too far. But since I am passless this season I might take a trip up there to ski it (if I can).

Am I done? Yes and no. I didn't (and likely won't) buy a pass again, but I might go back at some point. There still is a lot there to write the place off. That being said, there's plenty I won't miss.

Never been there, probably never will. Nothing there besides the nightlife that may attract me.

This thread has touched on the main advantage of Killington that no amount of bad management can destroy. It's a big mountain with lots of trails that's closer to NYC and Boston than any of its competitors. So they may lose AZers and other hardcore skiers, but your typical Killington skier might not even notice.

And thus we see Killington's downside at the same time. They can get away with stuff that others can't. And so they do...

I voted no I'm done because the only time I would go there is on a trip w/ my wife. We used to go there together once a year until I took her to Stowe. She likes Stowe/Smuggs so much that's where we go as a couple. If I go by myself or with a buddy, it's always to Whiteface for the vert.

Cool, sounds a lot like our plan -- we're hoping to get up to Stowe and MRG for long weekends this year. Combine that with 2 trips out west and some early season at Mt. Snow and we're probably not talking more than 10-12 days at Killington, anyways.

Sounds like you have a lot of experience with both -- how would you compare the Hunter crowds on a weekend with Killington? I've been to Hunter twice and both times the crowds were insane. People always complain about Killington, but I don't think it's that bad. Could just be because we know the mountain pretty well by now, though, and make it a point to be out for first chair.

It's a big mountain with lots of trails that's closer to NYC and Boston than any of its competitors. So they may lose AZers and other hardcore skiers, but your typical Killington skier might not even notice.

I'll let that slide. ;)

Two seasons ago, K was my go-to mountain during the season. Then, it became my go-to mountain for early and late season skiing. Then, the crowding and the vibe just didn't feel right so I started drifting towards Sunday River because, for the same drive time, it basically gave me the same big area experience with a more laid back vibe. Ended my lift-served ski season at K this year and I don't think I'll be back for a while.
